The Guardians will be on the road to square off with the Blue Jays for the final game of their series on Sunday afternoon.
Shane Bieber will be facing off with Kevin Gausman which could certainly make for a good duel.
Toronto is a relatively small favorite at home in this spot. There has not been a lot of movement from the opening total of 7.5.
Cleveland Guardians
In the opener on Friday, the Guardians were really able to get the offense going, but that was not the case on Saturday as they lost by a score of 2-1.
With the loss, the 6-game winning streak for this group is now over. In their last 10 games, they still have an impressive record of 7-3, though.
I didn’t think Cleveland played poorly last time out, but they were just not able to get enough production when they had to. It was certainly a frustrating loss for them because the pitching did quite well against a very challenging offense.
Triston McKenzie managed to go 6.2 innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. His strikeout numbers were not very high, but he still found a way to navigate through this order.
The offense for Cleveland was just not able to do a lot against Mitch White and the rest of the relievers. They had a few opportunities, but they were not able to do a whole lot with them.
With the loss on Saturday, the Tribe now have a record of 60-53 and they are still 1st in the AL Central with a 1.5 game lead over the Twins. It sure will be fun to see how that division shakes out for the rest of the season.
Cleveland made a statement in the opener by beating Toronto by as much as they did and they will look to make another on Sunday by earning the series win. It is never an easy thing to walk into that building against them when they have a good team.
Shane Bieber will get the ball in the finale and he will look to keep up what he did against the Tigers last time out where he went seven innings and did not allow an earned run. Overall, he has been impressive this season despite not always getting the best support.
Toronto Blue Jays
It was important that the Blue Jays had a bounce-back effort on Saturday and they were able to get one with a low-scoring victory over the Guardians.
It started with Mitch White who went 4.2 innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. He would have liked to have been out there longer, but he was able to put forth a solid outing and pass it over to the bullpen which was also really impressive.
Five relievers ended up being used for Toronto and they allowed just three hits and no earned runs. That part of their game has been questionable this season so it was a good sign to see them have that kind of production last time out.
It clearly was not a day where there was a ton of offense on display, but they did what they needed in the opportunities they were given to get the job done.
Saturday was really about the home run ball for the Jays as both Tesocar Hernandez and Matt Chapman were able to strike against McKenzie. With one swing of the bat, this offense is capable of getting on the board with some of the hitters they have.
There are certain times when Toronto is good at stringing together hits and scoring that way, but there are others where the long ball really helps them and that was the case in this one.
This is a confident team no matter who is on the mound, but they should always feel a little better when Kevin Gausman is on the mound. He truly has been electric this season and is one of the best arms in the game when he has got it going.
Similar to his opponent, his record does not totally represent how he has pitched this season. Aside from a few rough outings, he has been awfully impressive in 2022.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Guardians are 4-11 in their last 15 games on astroturf.
- The Guardians are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games on the road against Toronto.
- The Blue Jays are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
- The Blue Jays are 9-4 in their last 13 games vs. the AL Central.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
The strong pitching really led the Blue Jays to victory in the second game of this series and I look for that to happen here.
Both of these starters have been quite good this season, but I do give the edge to Gausman and I trust him a little more in this spot.
Bieber certainly has the ability to be effective against this order, but I like the Jays to pull it off when all is said and done.
Jays on the Moneyline is the play for me in this spot.
