The Guardians and Blue Jays will be squaring off for the second game of their series on Saturday afternoon from Rogers Centre.
Triston McKenzie will be opposed by Kevin Gausman in this one.
At the moment, Toronto is a small favorite at home with the total set at 8.5.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians started off this series north of the border with a bang as they were able to pick up the 8-0 win in the opener on Friday.
They truly played a complete baseball game and were able to get plenty of contributions from different guys.
Cal Quantrill, who has been pretty effective since becoming a starter, once again delivered as he fired seven innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven. Keeping an offense like that in check is never an easy task, but he was clearly up for it.
Cleveland had a clear plan of attack against Jose Berrios and they hit him very hard. The right-hander did not seem to have any answers at all for this offense who really made him pay several times with mistakes.
Jose Ramirez led the way with three hits on the night to go along with four RBI. With 14 hits overall, it was clearly a good day for this team on that side of the field.
After picking up the win on Friday, the Tribe now have a record of 60-52 and they lead the Twins by 1.5 games. At this point in the season, I think there are a lot of people that are surprised they are leading the Central.
These guys will look to keep up this strong play on Saturday and show that the first game was not a fluke. They definitely can do so, but it will have to happen against a tough customer in Kevin Gausman.
Getting the ball in this one is Triston McKenzie and he has been quite sharp this season despite only holding a record of 8-8. This kid really does have electric stuff and when he is really on his game, he has the ability to keep any order in check.
Toronto Blue Jays
The struggles for the Blue Jays kept up on Friday as they just looked very bad overall in the defeat at the hands of the Guardians.
It was understood this was going to be a tough series given the kind of opponent they were facing, but it is not acceptable to not show up at all. They were totally absent in their last game and that is going to have to change for them as the series goes on.
All season long, Jose Berrios really has not been all that reliable and he once again showed that in the opener with a disastrous outing. Actually, that is being kind because he looked lost on the mound and it is a miracle he made it through four innings, frankly.
The right-hander ended up allowing eight hits and eight earned runs with just one strikeout. These sorts of performances have become all too common for him in 2022 and Toronto has to worry about that as the season goes on and on.
For as bad as the starting pitcher was in the first game, the offense for the Jays was just as bad because they got totally blanked and did not seem to know what they were doing up there.
I get that Quantrill is a solid arm, but there is no reason this offense could not do something against him. There was just no rhythm for them on that side of the field.
This is a team that can definitely respond as the series goes on, but it does not take away what happened to start it off. They will be leaning on Kevin Gausman on Saturday hoping he can once again show why he is one of the best arms in the sport.
Aside from a few shaky starts, this guy has been as advertised and will look to keep up what he did against the Twins last time out. Similar to who he will be facing, the record of 8-8 does not totally tell the whole story on what kind of hurler this guy is.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Guardians are 4-10 in their last 14 games on astroturf.
- The Guardians are 7-3 in their last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Blue Jays are 8-3 in their last 11 vs. the AL Central.
- The Blue Jays are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 runs or less in the previous game.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
After an awful performance, you will often hear the term flush it and boy, that is exactly what the Blue Jays have to do in a spot like this and I do feel they can.
This offense is one of the best in the sport and I expect them to respond in a good way on Saturday although it will not be easy against McKenzie. Even if they do not smoke him, there are always opportunities to do some damage against that bullpen for Cleveland.
Gausman knows his team will really be relying on him in a spot like this and I am looking for him to deliver and lead his team to a W.
With the price being reasonable here, I like the Jays on the Moneyline at home.
