Al Central baseball sees the Guardians and Royals starting a series on Monday evening from Kauffman Stadium.
As of right now, Cleveland is laying a short price on the road. Triston McKenzie will be opposed by Brady Singer here.
The total opened at 7 and has been bet up to 7.5.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians fell to the Mariners by a score of 6-3 on Sunday which completed the sweep for one of the hottest teams in the sport at the moment.
This club knew that facing off with Seattle was going to be a big test and when everything was all said and done, they really did not have too many answers for their opponent.
The biggest issue for this team in their last set of games was the lack of offense. I get that they had to face some tough pitchers, but it still would have been nice to see more from them in that category.
In their last three games, Seattle has been outscored by a margin of 16-4. No matter who it is that you are facing, those are the sorts of things that are not acceptable.
At the moment, the Tribe has a record of 68-64 which is the same as the Twins. Chicago is right behind them at 67-67 and only trails by two games so it should be very interesting to see how that division shakes out in the end.
One team that is nowhere near contention for the division is the Royals which is why the Guardians really have to take advantage of these games and do some damage. Given what is on the line for them, it would be a really bad look to lose any games to a team that is simply not very good.
Getting the ball to open up the series is Triston McKenzie and he has been quite impressive this year. I know the record is not where a lot of people would like it, but a lot of his other numbers are quite good and he seems to deliver quality outings at a consistent clip which is what he is going to need to continue doing.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals were able to take two out of three games from the Tigers over the weekend after they dropped the first game of the series by a score of 5-4.
In the finale on Sunday, they were able to pull off a low-scoring game the day after they scored 12 runs in a lopsided game.
Look, winning a series over Detroit is really not going to tell that much, but they will take anything they can get. This season has been filled with so much negativity that even the small things are important for this group.
Although he did not give great length, Max Castillo was able to deliver a strong outing on Sunday as he went 4.2 innings and allowed two hits and struck out five batters.
From there, the relievers for Kansas City did a very good job as they totally shut the Tigers down for the remainder of the ball game.
It can be very easy to critique the Royals, but one area that I have been impressed with by them so far is their bullpen which has consistently been strong for them in 2022 and really has been a strength of their team.
KC will now begin a series with a divisional rival and it will be interesting to see what version of Cleveland shows up here. It could be the team that is pesky and competitive or it could be the one that plays down to their competition and does not take care of a team they are clearly better than.
On the mound for the opener is Brady Singer and he will look to be better than he was against the White Sox where he allowed a lot of hits and just was not very sharp. On the season, he has been solid despite not always getting the most support.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Guardians are 6-2 in their last 8 during game 1 of a series.
- The Guardians are 9-4 in their last 13 road games.
- The Royals are 5-12 in their last 17 vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Royals are 2-6 in their last 8 following a win.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
This is a game that features two strong starting pitchers, but I do give the edge to McKenzie and trust him more in a spot like this.
On Monday, this young right-hander for Cleveland is going to have to be the stopper after his team did not play well over the weekend and this is a good opportunity for him to do so.
It is certainly possilbe that Singer is also strong in this game, but I look for the Tribe to do enough against him to take a close one on the road.
My play is the Guardians as a short favorite here.
