The Guardians will be in Colorado to take on the Rockies for game 2 of their series.
Konnor Pilkington and Austin Gomber are the slated starters in this contest.
Cleveland took Game 1 of the series by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians have been a team that certainly has not been flashy, but that does not mean they have not played well at times.
Going into the season, I think people pretty much knew what this team would be. They are not bad enough to be a bottom feeder, but they are also not talented enough to be in the upper tier of teams.
When I look at their schedule, one thing that is very apparent with Cleveland is they are able to beat the teams they should beat for the most part but have not had the same success against some of the better teams.
That characteristic is usually one of a middling ball club. They might look better against some of the weaker teams, but they will get exposed by the better ones.
As of right now, this club holds a record of 30-27, and they trail the Twins by 2.5 games. Given how the Central has played this season, it is not unrealistic to feel they could win the division.
Something that should definitely concern them is whether or not they will be able to hold up for a full season due to their lack of depth. Besides Bieber on the mound and Ramirez in the batter’s box, they are not littered with talent elsewhere and that could catch up to them.
This series with Colorado is definitely one they should be winning and they started off on the right foot. Strong pitching and enough offense was the formula to get the game 1 victory.
Shane Bieber went 6.2 innings, allowed 3 earned runs, and punched out 7 batters in the win on Tuesday. Konnor Pilkington, who is not a very well-known guy, will look to have similar results when he takes on the mound here. He holds a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 3.57.
Colorado Rockies
After getting off to what was a strong start this season, the Rockies have definitely come back down to Earth.
This is a team that has looked better than before in glimpses, but it still has not been done with enough regularity for people to really trust them.
Over the years, a trait to describe this Colorado team has often been inconsistent and 2022 is really no different. Even when fans get their hopes up with them, they revert back to their old ways.
I think what you are seeing from them now is what they will be for the rest of the season. It would not shock me if they were to finish the season below the .500 mark.
Similar to the Guardians, I do not view this team as an overly talented one and the better teams know how to take advantage of that. Until they get a lot more firepower on their roster, I do not think you will see much change from them.
In a division like the NL West, the teams with the most talent tend to be toward the top of the standings and that has been the case this season. With over 60 games in the books, Colorado finds itself in the basement and trailing the Dodgers by 11.5 games.
Antonio Senzatela put forth a solid effort and gave his team a chance to win on Tuesday, but the offense did not do enough to get it done. They had chances against Bieber but did not capitalize.
The left-hander Austin Gomber will be getting the ball here and simply has not been great this year. He is 3-6 with an ERA north of 6 right now.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Guardians are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
- The Guardians are 5-1 in their last 6 interleague road games.
- The Rockies are 11-24 in their last 35 home games.
- The Rockies are 0-5 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series.
Cleveland Guardians vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
The Guardians followed a simple script to earn the victory in game 1 and I feel they can do so again here.
As noted earlier, Gomber has not been great this season and the Tribe does have the ability to hit weaker pitching. I look for them to get to him and then get some runs off of their bullpen.
Pilkington does not have a ton of experience and is not electrifying, but it is not as if he has been a liability out there. I feel he can be solid and get some run support in this one.
I like the Guardians at -110.
