Minnesota Twins
The Twins got beat by Shane Bieber in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader, 5–1.
The loss dropped them to .500 and dimmed their fast-flying playoff hopes even further.
The injuries have just been too tough to overcome: Byron Buxton, Jorge Polanco, Max Kepler, plus starting pitchers Chris Archer, Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda, who never pitched this season.
Joe Ryan has even slowed down after a fast start to his rookie season.
The 26-year-old saw his ERA briefly climb over four before seven shutout innings in his last start brought it back down.
He beat Cleveland in May and pitched fairly well another time in June.
Depending on how the nightcap goes on Saturday, the bullpen may not be in horrible shape thanks to the rookie Louie Varland getting through five and Aaron Sanchez mopping up the last three.
Cleveland Guardians
Jose Ramirez hit his 28th home run of the season in the Game 1 victory to back Shane Bieber, who was spectacular once again.
Bieber went eight innings and gave up a solo home run in his last inning of work in an attempt at a complete game.
Manager Terry Francona didn’t let him try it, even with his pitch count in order. All told, Bieber gave up four hits and no walks while striking out six.
Ahmed Rosario had four hits and two runs batted in. Owen Miller had the other two RBIs on a hard-hit single in the fourth that plated Oscar González and Andres Gimenez, who hit his 25th double of the season.
Cody Morris, a seventh round pick four years ago out of the University of South Carolina, has made three starts in his big league career to date.
He got knocked around a little bit by the Mariners in two innings his first time out.
Then he recovered to throw four shutout innings the next time out against the Royals.
Morris pitched into the fourth inning against the Angels his last time out but walks did him in.
He threw ball four five times but still managed to give up only one run.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians MLB Prediction:
Morris proves to be effective against a lineup of hitters who don’t have much intel to go on.
He keeps it close in the first half of the game and the Cleveland bullpens proves once again superior and wins it for the home team.
Minnesota looks like a team limping to the finish line. Cleveland, meanwhile, is enjoying counting down its magic number at the end of every day.
