Anthony DeSclafani tossed seven innings of two-hit, shutout baseball against the Marlins on Wednesday and the Reds won their third in a row, 5–0.
They have a chance to sweep the Fish on Thursday before getting out of town to go and face the first-place Cardinals. Trevor Bauer will take the ball in game one.

Bauer hasn’t been the consistent performer in Cincinnati that he was in Cleveland. He got bombed the last time out in Pittsburgh, giving up eight hits and seven earned runs in three innings. He’s been hit hard twice and underwhelming a third time in his five starts since the trade.
This is a spot that could favor him, though. It’s a chance to stick it to a newfound rival that’s looking to wrap up another division title and get back to the postseason.
I’m expecting good Bauer on this day.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals lost for the first time in a week Wednesday night in Milwaukee, 4–1.

Jordan Lyles was good for five innings and the combination of Junior Guerra and Josh Hander was dominant over the last 3.1 in victory.
That means the Birds gave one back to the Cubs, who beat the Mets, and are now just two games up in the division. It’s still a tossup but it just doesn’t feel like Chicago has a serious move in it. September can be funny, though.
Despite shoddy WHIP numbers, due in large part to a poor strikeout-to-walk ratio, Dakota Hudson is pitching to an ERA+ of nearly 125 and he’s 13-6.
Perhaps most importantly, and impressively, of all, he’s going to make 30 starts this season.
