Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati is coming on and if they have some more success in this series they could sneak past Pittsburgh in the NL Central. The pitching is holding better than expected and the hitting has to come around eventually. Joey Votto continues to struggle. There are 10 players who have more than his 11 RBIs this season. That includes rookie Nick Senzel who has played less than half the number of games.

Tyler Mahle has looked good at times this season. He is able to strike out guys when he needs to, he just needs to be a little more careful in terms of homers. The most noticeable thing is that he is terrible on the road, 0-5, while really sharp at home. That imbalance is affecting his numbers significantly as he has made just three starts at home this season. If he can normalize these numbers there could be some value here.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are a solid team but they have been up and down. They swept the Cubs over the weekend but started this series against the Reds with a loss. They have yet to have a really good stretch and were rough in May. They need a little more power from the lineup and it looks like Matt Carpenter might be coming around. He has three homers in his last 10 and inching his average up.

Miles Mikolas’s up and down season pretty much mirrors the Cards overall. Similar to Mahle, he has amazing home road splits but in this case that makes him more playable. Also similar to Mahle it is the homers that are making it tough for him. Last year he was shrewd in that regard but this season he has been charitable. I like the arms in their bullpen but these guys are still just figuring it out at the MLB level.
