Cincinnati Reds
The Reds had a series vs. the Giants last weekend that bled into Monday afternoon. Cincinnati put up twelve runs to win that game but evidently didn’t save any for Oakland on Tuesday.
Mike Fiers threw the 300th no-hitter in Major League history on Tuesday night in Oakland when most of the country was sleeping. He pitched around an error by Matt Chapman and walked two for his second career no-no. He also threw one against the Dodgers as a member of the Astros in 2015.

The sure-handed Chapman may have made an error but two other A’s made spectacular defensive plays to preserve the no-hitter on back-to-back plays in the sixth innings.
Jurickson Profar laid out to catch a bloop that was more so over the first baseman’s head than the right-center gap. Joey Votto came up next and hit a bomb to left-center and Ramon Laureano tracked, jumped for, and robbed, taking away a solo homer with just another one of his highlights.
The Reds finish up this series in Oakland before going over the bridge to play three more with the Giants.

Profar also provided the only offense for Oakland in its 2–0 win on Tuesday, launching just his third home run of the season.
On the whole, the 26-year-old from Curacao has been struggling in his first season as an Athletic. He’s hitting .181 and that third home run was just his seventh extra-base hit. But the A’s don’t have the depth up the middle that they did last season so they’re sticking with Profar, whom at least they’re only paying $3.6 million to this season.

Perhaps Tuesday’s game will jump-start Profar, who was consistently ranked as, if not the best, one of the highest rated prospects in the game from his teenage years. He was a polished teenager who keen scouts noticed didn’t necessarily have the ceiling of a top-rated prospect.
That assessment proven prophetic. Profar finished last season (the only season of his career with more than 100 games played) with a 107 OPS+. He’ll be eligible for arbitration after this season before becoming a full free-agent after the 2020 regular season.
