The Reds will be in New York to start a series with the Yankees on Tuesday evening.
As one would expect, the Bombers are very big favorites at home in this one.
Graham Ashcraft and Gerrit Cole are the slated starters in this one.
Cincinnati Reds
All season long, the Reds have been one of the worst teams in the league. Whenever I think of this team, that is one of the first things that come to mind.
The idea of these guys finding it and playing better has not happened and will not happen in 2022. What they have shown so far is who they are and they will continue to play baseball at a very low level.
Even with them struggling a ton this season, that does not mean they will not surprise some people at times when they pick up wins against teams they were not expected to and that happened in their last series.
Over the weekend, Cincinnati hosted the Rays and took every game from them, which had to be one of the biggest baseball shocks of the weekend. Taking one game from that team is something, but being able to take them all was actually pretty impressive for a team that has been the opposite of that this year.
In their last series, they were able to get a good amount of offense and I was also impressed with the way they pitched. They never really let the offense for Tampa kill them, which is not an easy thing to do.
The Reds will now get a chance against another squad from the AL East, but this time it is the best team in the sport and the level of competition will be even higher.
If Cincinnati is able to play balanced baseball, then they might be able to take a game in this series, but it still is going to be very hard for them. They are not a team that has strung together a lot of wins in a row this season, so it would not surprise me if they went back to their ways.
Graham Ashcraft will be getting the ball in this one and he has shown some good signs this year but has had his struggles. He still has some refining to do in his game, but there is upside with this kid.
New York Yankees
Some teams have been getting hot and could eventually get into this category, but the Yankees are still the best team in the sport for the moment. When I look at everything they have done to this point, they are the one that has impressed me the most.
With all of that said, that does not mean they are a perfect team. Although playing at a very high level, they are vulnerable and there are some holes on this team that will have to get addressed when it really matters.
New York is at a point in the season where they are trying to figure out what will work come October, which is one of the luxuries a team gets when they build the kind of lead they have. Not many teams can say this, but the division is already locked up and it should not even be a talking point within the organization.
In their last series with the Red Sox, the Bombers did just what you could have asked in the first two games. They were able to win a game on Thursday that never felt as close as the score said and then pounded their rival 12-5 on Friday.
During the weekend games, they were able to have leads late in the game, but Boston was able to storm back both times and earn the split. A normally dominant New York bullpen did have some struggles with the Boston hitters in those ones.
Still, walking out that series at Fenway, there were no thoughts that the Yankees are in bad shape or they should worry. Of course, they would have liked to win the series, but they would absolutely take a split against the Red Sox, especially when every game within the division for New York is not life or death like it has been in past seasons.
The only thing that could be a concern, but I do not feel will be a long-term issue, is the defense. There is no question they botched some plays in the field, but they have been solid in that part of their game all year long and I do not see that continuing for the rest of the reason.
These guys will now be hosting the lowly Reds with their ace on the mound starting on Tuesday. Nobody should ever count wins before they get them, but this is a series where New York should leave no questions in.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Reds are 5-1 in their last 6 interleague games.
- The Reds are 18-38 in their last 56 road games.
- The Yankees are 11-2 in their last 13 interleague games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Yankees are 40-13 in their last 53 home games.
Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Yankees MLB Prediction:
The Reds played well against a team better than them last time out, but I do not see that carrying over to Tuesday.
New York has mostly been able to take care of the weaker teams this season and I expect them to do so here.
Cole might not be his vintage self, but he still has been very sharp and if he is on his game, this lineup is a good matchup for him to put forth a strong outing and he should be able to get at least a decent amount of support.
