The Reds and Rockies will be squaring off on Sunday, May 1st.
Reiver Sanmartin is opposed by Kyle Freeland here.
Colorado is a pretty big-size favorite here with the total sitting at 10.5.
Cincinnati Reds
At a certain point, it becomes hard to even think of words to describe the Reds season. Terrible is not an accurate enough description of what they have done through their first 20 ball games.
At this point, they hold a record of 3-17 and find themselves 10.5 games behind the Brewers. It sure is going to be one long season for this group.
Going into this year, I did not think they were going to be some great team, but I did feel they could be better than what they have done so far. Yes, they have faced some good teams but is certainly realistic to think they could have a better record than they currently do.
When you look at this roster, it really is not all that impressive. The lineup is decent and the pitching needs a lot of work. Until they can figure that out, I would expect a lot of losing from them.
Cincinnati dropped the first game of this series by a score of 10-4 and they currently have a 1-0 lead as I write this. It will be interesting to see if they can hold onto that.
Hunter Greene went 4.1 innings and allowed 4 earned runs in their loss on Friday. He looked good at times but was not able to get the consistent results he wanted in that one.
This whole series with Colorado is certainly going to test their pitching. The Rockies have a lot of good bats in their lineup and they can give a lot of pitching staffs some issues.
Reiver Sanmartin will be getting the start on Sunday and man could he use a good start. He is 0-3 with an ERA right around 11. Ouch!
Colorado Rockies
I think it is fair to say the Rockies have surprised some people with their start to the year. Overall, they have looked pretty impressive.
Clearly, a big question will be whether or not they can keep up that strong play as the year goes on. It is one thing to get off to a strong start and it is another thing completely to keep it up over the course of a season.
I feel they will be better than they have been in past years but it will still be very difficult to make it to the postseason and be all that competitive in their division. The NL West is just so damn competitive that you have to be truly special to hold your own in it.
Pitching is certainly not a big strength of theirs and that is where they will run into issues this season if they do not get better in that area. They might have some decent arms but that is not going to really get it done in a loaded National League.
This is a series that the Rockies must just take advantage of. When you are taking on one of the worst teams in baseball, it is pretty clear what needs to get done out there.
Antonio Senzetaela was very effective for these guys in the first game of the series. He went 6.1 innings and allowed just 1 earned run. He may not have had the highest strikeout numbers but he still went out there and did what he needed to do.
Kyle Freeland will get the start in the finale on Sunday and he really needs to be much better than he has been. He does not have a win yet and has an ERA of over 6.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Reds are 15-36 in their last 51 games vs. NL West.
- The Reds are 7-21 in their last 28 games as the underdog.
- The Rockies are 20-7 in their last 27 home games with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
- The Rockies are 5-2 in their last 7 home games.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
This game is not a very good matchup for the Reds and I am not very confident in them having all that much success here.
Colorado is the better team here and they have also have the starting pitching advantage even though he has not been anything great.
Sanmartin has not shown any ability this season to get people out and I do not that happening when he faces the Rockies.
I like the Rockies on the run line here.
