Cincinnati Reds
Hunter Greene will make his Major League debut as Cincinnati’s starting pitcher on Sunday afternoon.
The second overall pick back in 2017 MLB Draft, Greene dominated Double-A with Chattanooga last year before making another 14 starts at Triple-A Louisville.
The 6’5″ righty won’t turn 23 until August. He begins his Major League career against the defending World Series Champions.
The Reds used ten pitchers in their first two games against the Braves in this series. Vladimir Gutierrez gets the start for Cincinnati on Saturday evening.
Cincinnati’s pitching staff is remarkably young and inexperienced, especially for a team that has aspirations to contend.
All eyes will be on Greene in his first taste of MLB regular season action Sunday.
Atlanta Braves
Greene’s opponent will be 23-year-old Ian Anderson.
Anderson, who will turn 24 next month, is not much older than Greene but he has vastly more experience.
He came up at the end of 2020 and wound up starting four games in the playoffs for Atlanta, which lost in the NLCS to Los Angeles.
Then he threw 128 innings last season for the Braves and started four more postseason games, including a five-inning, no-hit performance against the Astros in a World Series victory.
Anderson will rack up victories against back-of-the-rotation opponents.
Max Fried and Charlie Morton started the first two for Atlanta. Kyle Wright starts its third game.
And then there’s Mike Soroka, who hasn’t pitched in two years after a brilliant rookie campaign in 2019. He could be back at midseason and finish off a rotation as good as any in the big leagues for Atlanta.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Head to Head: Reds are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Atlanta.

- Head to Head: Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Atlanta Braves MLB Prediction:
Take the Braves to win this one on the runline.
Greene pitched to a 4.28 ERA at Triple-A last season and while that was last year, he’s still on a fast track to be in Cincinnati’s starting five to start the year.
Even without Ronald Acuna Jr. in the lineup, Atlanta should take advantage against its inexperienced opponent.
With Greene unlikely to go deep into this game, look for the Braves to wear the Reds bullpen out a little bit and win this game by multiple runs.
