Chicago White Sox
Chicago comes into its series with Texas having won back-to-back series for the first time since early May.
The Sox lost the first game versus both the A’s and Royals before coming back to take two out of three.
Johnny Cueto goes in game one on Thursday and Manager Tony La Russa will give the ball to Dylan Cease in this one.
Cease leads the team with 3.8 wins above replacement. His 50 walks leads the league but it isn’t difficult to look past that at some of his terrific numbers.
Namely, 116 innings pitched, 11 wins, and a 2.01 ERA, which is nearly half of the league average.
He’s giving up well under seven hits per nine innings and his 12.4 strikeouts per nine is a career-best.
He’s also been an iron man, making all 21 of his starts this season after leading the league with 32 a year ago.
Cease has been even more incredible of late. He gave up 13 runs in two starts in May but since his last start in May, he’s been the best pitcher in baseball.
He’s given up four earned runs total in 12 starts (70 innings), which is basically an ERA of 0.50.
Miraculously, he’s lost two of those starts and is just 7–2 in that span but he’s won his last four starts.
Texas has yet to see him this year.
Texas Rangers
So while a majority of Cease’s starts of late are resulting in a goose egg for the opponent, Texas starter Glenn Otto has yet to post a zero in the run column this season.
He’s made 15 starts in his second big league season and pitched to a 72 ERA+, which isn’t great.
However, Otto has been pitching through five innings more consistently. He pitched either five or six innings in his last three, twice against the Mariners and once against Anaheim.
He’s 0–5 in his last seven starts.

- White Sox are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
Chicago White Sox vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
Keep an eye on how the White Sox look in the first game on Thursday. Just when it looks like things are going well, it would not be surprising in the least to see the Sox flounder.
That’s just kind of how it has gone for Chicago this season.
However, a win on Thursday would build a lot of good momentum going into this one on Friday with the ace on the bump.
The Sox will be pricey road favorites. Perhaps the under will be a better play with Cease going against Otto, who is still building some big league confidence.
