Chicago White Sox
All in all, the White Sox have vastly underperformed this season. Given what they have done so far, that is really the only logical conclusion.
If this was many years ago, a big deal would not be being made of it because nobody thought they would be good but this season is different.
Coming into this season, this Sox team had a lot of expectations and people really thought they would be one of the best in the AL. So far, that could not be further from the truth.
It is one thing to get off to a slow start but the problem they have had is being able to get back on track. It seems like for the entirety of the season they have not been able to find a rhythm and it does not appear as if it is going to change.
There is no question that this team does have some talent on it but they also have plenty of flaws. Until those get truly addressed, I have a hard time seeing them make any true noise as a threat in this league.
The starting rotation is too overhyped and inconsistent, the offense is an average one, and the bullpen is very unreliable. Simply put, the best teams in this sport do not have all of those issues going against them.
Chicago did pick up the 3-2 win on Saturday and have split the first 2 contests with Tampa Bay. It is imperative that they take care of business on Sunday and win the series.
Dylan Cease went 4.2 innings and did not allow an earned run in their win on Saturday. The walks were still very concerning but he was still effective. Now, Lucas Giolito will take the hill and will look to keep up his sharp pitching.
Tampa Bay Rays
I would say it has been a solid season for the Rays so far. They might not be playing as well as they have in past seasons but they still seem like a legit team.
This is a team that definitely got off to a slow start but they have certainly figured things out as the season has gotten deeper. Despite playing better, I still feel there is another level they can get to.
Even though they have played some good baseball in 2022, they are once again seeing how tough that AL East division is, as they sit in 3rd place in it. As always, it will be fun to see how the East shakes out when all is said and done.
The Yankees still lead the division and Tampa currently is 3rd with a record of 31-22. Aside from just New York, the Rays have to really think about Toronto as well, who is 2nd in the division and appears to be playing much better baseball.
When you compare this team to the other two teams I just mentioned, they are not as talented as them but they can certainly compete with them. When the Rays hit the field, you do not get a sense that they are intimidated by the Bombers or Jays.
After starting off the series well with a win on Friday, the offense went quiet against Chicago on Saturday and they were not able to get it done. That has to be different in the finale.
Drew Rasmussen went 7 innings and did not allow an earned run on Saturday but he did not get a lot of run support. After he left, the bullpen did not do its job and blew the game.
Tampa will now turn to Ryan Yarbrough here and he has not shown a whole lot this season. He is currently 0-2 with an ERA of 4.00 and will have his hands full with this lineup.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The White Sox are 6-1 in their last 7 games as a road favorite.
- The White Sox are 11-5 in their last 16 games as a favorite.
- The Rays are 39-18 in their last 57 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Rays are 5-2 in their last 7 games.
Chicago White Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays MLB Prediction:
I get that the White Sox have not been impressive this season but I feel they match up well here and I trust them more than Tampa.
First off, they have the starter advantage with Giolito on the hill. He has proven to be their ace and aside from a few bumps, he has been quite sharp this season and can certainly be effective with this lineup.
Also, it is well documented how well Chicago had done against lefties and although not as good as last year, they are still very good in that category. I think going against this soft-tossing lefty is one they will take advantage of.
Give me Chicago laying a short price on the road.
