The White Sox will be on the road to start a series with the Mariners on Monday from T-Mobile Park.
Seattle is currently a small favorite at home here with a total of 7.5. That number did open at 7 and has ticked up half a run in most spots.
Lance Lynn and Marco Gonzales are the expected starters in this contest.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox did just what they had to do in the first two games with the Twins in their last series, but they dropped the finale by a score of 5-1.
A day after they went off and scored 13 runs, the offense just went totally quiet in a very important game as they had no answers for Dylan Bundy & co.
Chicago did end up picking up seven hits last time out, but they just were not able to turn it into all that much which has to be pretty frustrating for them given that they were not facing some great starter.
Lucas Giolito went five innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs in their loss on Sunday. He did what he had to do, but that does not matter when you do not get the required run support.
The bullpen did not exactly hold it down as Jake Diekman allowed two hits and a run while Vince Velasquez allowed three hits and two runs.
Although winning the series was a good thing for the Sox, the level of competition will be much higher when they hit the road to take on a very talented Mariners team that has been red hot.
Lance Lynn will open things up for this group on Monday and the numbers are not great at first glance, but he has been better of late as he has been able to give good length and production in his last multiple starts.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners just keep on playing great baseball as they were able to sweep the Guardians over the weekend and remain one the hottest teams in the sport.
Coming into play, they have a record of 76-58 and are 9-1 in their last 10 games. Although they are not going to catch the Astros for the division, it is hard not to be impressed by what this team has done.
In the three wins over Cleveland, Seattle was able to get enough offense and very good pitching to complete the sweep. They outscored their opponent 16-4 in those games which is more than what they could have expected heading into it.
George Kirby started the game on Sunday and went three innings while allowing three hits and one earned run. When he left, a total of nine relievers were used and they allowed just two earned runs in that time.
Julio Rodriguez led the team with four hits and an RBI in their last game while lots of other people contributed such as Cal Raleigh who had two RBI as well.
No matter who the Mariners have played for a while now, they just seem to get the job done more than not. It was pretty clear early on that they were underperforming, but the consistency has been there for a while now and it would not surprise me if they are a very tough team to take down in the postseason.
Seattle will once again square off with a team from the AL Central on Monday and this is a very winnable series for them. It should not be one they take lightly because Chicago can be tough at times, but if the M’s are on their game, they should be able to find success in those three games.
Marco Gonzales will be toeing the slab on Monday and he certainly has not overpowered the opposition this year, but he has been a reliable starter for them and is coming off a strong outing against the Tigers where he allowed three runs in seven innings.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The White Sox are 9-4 in their last 13 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The White Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 games.
- The Mariners are 7-0 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series.
- The over is 4-1 in Chicago’s last 5 during game 1 of a series.
Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners MLB Prediction:
When I look at both of these teams, I certainly have more confidence in the Mariners moving forward this season, but when it comes to this game right here, I actually like Chicago a little more.
Look, I know Lynn has not been the guy he once was and there is a chance he never will get to that point again, but I still view him as the better starter compared to Gonzales and I feel that will be very important here.
To me, this is the type of game that turns out close, but I look for Chicago to do enough against the opposing starter and get a quality outing from Lynn.
As a small underdog on the road, I like the Chi Sox here.
