Chicago White Sox
The season has been kind of a strange one for the White Sox so far. No matter how you slice it, it has not been what they could have asked for.
Look, they have not been terrible and they have shown glimpses of being the team we thought they would be. However, it clearly has not been done on a consistent enough level.
As you can see by their record, Chicago has been an up-and-down baseball team. Given the kind of players they have, it is very realistic to feel they should be somewhere in the mid-’20s in terms of wins but instead, they have not even cracked the 20-win mark.
The Chi Sox come into this series with a record of 19-19 and they are 2nd in the AL Central. Currently, the Twins lead them by 3 games with a record of 22-16.
One advantage that this team has is the fact that their division is not very strong. Sure, Minnesota is a decent team but I would not call them a legit threat in the big picture.
The Sox being their own worse enemy is really the only way I see them not having a strong regular season. They are too talented to at least not be in the mix of things in the AL come postseason time.
In a rare event, Chicago played the Royals 5 teams this week and won 3 of them. Sure, they won the series but I am sure they would have loved to have won at least one more of those games.
This series will be an opportunity for this club to get a little revenge. They just played the Yankees a little while ago and did not look that great in the series.
New York Yankees
Man, have the Yankees had one special season. They have truly looked like one of the best teams in baseball and it would be pretty hard to dispute that right about now.
When you examine how they have had so much success so far, it really is a take your pick kind of scenario. This team really has done it on all levels.
First off, and this cannot get stated enough, they have had outstanding starting pitching for the most part which has been a huge boost for them. The starters typically give them good length with solid production and the bullpen has been largely effective. It is hard to argue with that formula.
Also, the offense has really seemed to find a groove and they are hitting how they should be. It was a bit of a shaky start on that side of the field but they have really figured things out in that department.
Even though this start has been amazing for them, that is not what is on the mind of fans. They know this only means so much and the ultimate sign of a great season is by hoisting a trophy.
Although this team is clicking on all cylinders right now, I still would not put them in the title contention mode. I am not saying what they have done is a fluke but I also am not sure if this type of play(not the record) is sustainable over the long haul. Not even being a fan of the team, but my pessimistic view of things thinks that the injury bug will eventually catch up with this group and eventually cost them.
Coming into this series with Chicago, New York should feel very confident. They played them very well in their last series in the Windy City and overall, they feel they are the better team. Frankly, this whole series is a good matchup for the Bombers.
Nestor Cortes gets the ball in this one and man, what a season this guy has had so far. He went from a nice story to someone who is a legit pitcher on this staff and in the sport. Whenever he is on the mound, the Yanks ought to feel very good with their chances.

The Yankees certainly did not end their series with the Orioles the way they would have liked but they have still been rolling. I expect them to start off this series in the right direction.
New York has the clear advantage in terms of the starting pitcher and overall, they just are the better team. If they are on, this is one they should be able to take care of.
Keuchel has just been too inconsistent for me to trust here. He will have his hands full with this lineup and I do not feel he will be ready for it.
I like the Yankees laying the runs at home.
