Chicago White Sox
I would not say that it is time to panic yet, but things are not looking very good for the White Sox right about now. I am sure fans are already losing their patience with this team.
This is a crew that had very expectations for 2022, was thought of to be one of the better teams in the American League, and it was realistic to think they could win 90+ games and win the division.
Right now, none of those things seem to be the case and there is no guarantee they will figure it out as the year goes on. They have the talent to play better, but that is not everything.
So far, Chicago has dropped the first two games to the Twins. The first game was a close one, but Saturday was terrible as they lost by a score of 9-2. Simply put, that kind of performance by a team of this caliber is not acceptable.
A lot of people might push back on this, but I think a real issue for them is pitching. Lucas Giolito is solid, but is he a true ace or an elite pitcher? No. Dylan Cease has shown glimpses of being very good, but consistency remains an issue for him. Lance Lynn is their most talented arm, but who knows when he is back.
The offense is plenty good and they will win games for them, but I am still dubious about them on the other side of the ball. I feel the good teams will be able to expose that part of their game as the season goes on.
Vince Velasquez got rocked in the loss on Saturday as he went 3.1 innings, gave up 8 hits, and allowed 5 earned runs. Also, it did not help that the Sox could not manage to do much against a mediocre Dylan Bundy.
Giolito will be on the bump on Sunday and will look to get his team back on the winning path. He has not always had the most success against the Twins in his career, so we will see what happens.
Minnesota Twins
I would say the Twins have been ok this season, but it has been nothing to write home about now. Really, nobody in their division has lit the world on fire.
Last season was definitely a down year for this group but there were some folks that seemed to feel they could rebound this year and be much better. They do have an improved roster, but I am not ready to say they will be some great team yet.
It is early, but it is very good to see them have this success against the White Sox. Whenever you can play well against the best team in the division, you will take it. Of course, it is important that they do not struggle against some of the weaker teams in the Central.
What really killed this team a year ago was the start they got off to. They did get better as the season went on but the damage was already done.
If they can get more consistent this season, it is realistic to feel they could be a threat in their division. Ultimately, I would expect the White Sox to figure things out but you never know.
Dylan Bundy kept up his good pitching on Saturday as he went 5 innings and did not allow an earned run. He took down a good Red Sox lineup before that and then contained another lineup in the White Sox.
Bundy did not have very high strikeout numbers in his last outing, but that did not matter. He was able to keep hitters off balance and generate weak contact which is what you want to see out of your starter.
Chris Archer will be on the mound on Sunday in the finale. He does not have a record yet and owns an ERA of 2.16.

Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
Chicago certainly had a game to forget on Saturday, but I do feel they can be better on Sunday.
They have the starting pitcher advantage and I still feel they are the better team overall. I like them here in this spot.
If Giolito is on, he should be able to be effective and I look for the Sox to have success against Archer.
Give me the Chi Sox on the Moneyline.
