Chicago White Sox
All season long, the White Sox have been a very hard team to figure out and it does not look as if that will change as the season gets deeper.
When you look at their complete body of work to this point, it is very fair to say they have underperformed. It is important to remember the expectations that were given to them before the season started.
Chicago has shown glimpses this season of being a good team but it has not happened enough. If they do not figure things out quickly, this will really be a lost season for them.
Whenever a team is not playing how they should, there are a lot of reasons why and that is no different for this team.
A big one for the Chi Sox has been the lack of consistent pitching from both the rotation and the pen. They have a lot of arms on their stuff that are highly regarded, but a lot of them simply have not been consistent enough and it has cost the team.
The offense still hits left-handed pitching well, but they are not as productive on that side of the field as they were a year ago. I would say what they have is a decent lineup, but it is not one that strikes fear into a team that has deep pitching.
After getting smoked by Houston in game 1, Chicago did bounce back and get the 7-0 win on Saturday. Johnny Cueto kept up his strong pitching in that one and they were able to get to Justin Verlander early and often in that one.
Michael Kopech will be getting the start in this one and he has been solid this year. He holds a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 1.92.
Houston Astros
As expected, the Astros are once again having a very strong season and they look like a true threat in the AL.
Throughout the course of a long season, teams will always have games that they wished they could throw away and that was the case on Saturday when they simply did not play well.
Regardless, this is a team that I am very high on, and feel they will only get stronger as the year goes on.
We heard all about the Angels being a threat to them in the West, but that was once against just smoke and mirrors. As has been the case for a while now, the Stros are clearly the best team in their division and the rest of them are average to below-average ball clubs.
Unless something crazy happens, I would expect Houston to once again win their division and then be poised to make a deep playoff run.
If they really want to get over the top this season, I feel they will need to acquire at least one bat and potentially a few arms. The offense could certainly use another hitter and the pitching does not have the most depth on it.
In a rare instance this season, Justin Verlander was simply not effective in his most recent start. The righty went 3.2 innings, gave up 9 hits, and allowed 4 earned runs. Also, the offense decided to not even put one run the board.
The Astros will now be turning to Cristian Javier and he is a guy that has been used as a starter and reliever. He comes into this contest with a record of 3-3 and an ERA of 3.20. It would be nice if they were able to get some length out of him in this one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The White Sox are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The White Sox are 20-50 in their last 70 games as a dog.
- The Astros are 6-0 in their last 6 Sunday games.
- The Astros are 30-12 in their last 42 games as a favorite.
Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros MLB Prediction:
Houston won by a wide margin on Friday and then Houston did so on Saturday. I am curious to see how this one turns out.
The Astros are a huge favorite in this one, but I do not feel they have the starting pitching advantage and that is the main reason why I feel Chicago can keep it close.
Although Kopech is not a guy that gets talked about a ton, he has been very effective this season and if he can be that on Sunday, his team will have a shot.
For me, the runs are too much to lay with Huston. I like the Sox at +1.5.
