As if MLB wasn’t cramming enough games in a short period of time, the White Sox and Indians will play the traditional doubleheader on Tuesday after Monday’s series opener was postponed due to rain.
The lines are late being released for this matchup as oddsmakers want to be sure how teams are going to go about their lineups. Cleveland should be favored after taking 2 of 3 from the Royals and being at home.
Chicago White Sox
One disadvantage Chicago may be facing is being without manager Rick Renteria as he is self-quarantining after feeling ill Monday morning. There is a chance Renteria could return if his test results come back.
Either way, Chicago has a potent lineup that is 4th in the majors in batting average even after dropping two of three on opening weekend to the Twins. The Sox have hit 7 HRs which is tied with Minnesota for most in the league.
Monday’s game is an important one for Dylan Cease to get off on a positive note. The right-hander was 4-7 in his rookie season a year ago, posting a 5.79 ERA.
Cleveland Indians
For the ups and downs that Chicago’s Cease had in his rookie campaign, he did have a season high 11 K’s in a September 2nd start vs. the Indians. Cleveland did put up 4 ER in 6-2/3 IP though.
The Indians are 2-1 on the year despite Francisco Lindor starting the season 2-14 (.143). Carlos Santana is also 0-8 but Cleveland has absorbed that mostly because they opened the year against the Royals.
Cleveland will go with Aaron Civale who was also a rookie a year ago. Civale was 3-4 but his ERA was just 2.34 across 10 starts. Civale was roughed up a bit by Chicago in the 2019 season finale allowing 4ER in 3.1 IP.
