White Sox vs. Guardians Gameday
Win or go home.
The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians meet Saturday, October 10, 2026, in a winner-take-all ALDS Game 5 at Progressive Field, with first pitch scheduled for 8:00 PM ET on TBS. One team gets a ticket to the ALCS against Tampa Bay, while the other gets a head start on its offseason vacation.
Chicago had this series right where it wanted it, jumping ahead 2-0 before dropping both games at Rate Field. Manager Will Venable now has to convince his club that two missed opportunities don’t mean a third is inevitable.
Easier said than done when the other dugout suddenly believes it can’t lose.
Stephen Vogt’s Guardians finished 85-77, one game ahead of the 84-78 White Sox in the AL Central. Cleveland gets the deciding game at home, although the road team has won every contest in this series.
Apparently, home-field advantage didn’t bother reading the postseason script.
Chicago had Cleveland on the ropes, and now the Guardians have dragged this fight into the final round.

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians Odds & Previous Games
The opening MLB betting odds list Cleveland as a -137 moneyline favorite, with Chicago at +116. The White Sox are +1.5 (-191) on the run line, while the Guardians are -1.5 (+158). The total is 7 runs, with the Over priced at -118 and the Under at -102.
Chicago opened the series with a 3-0 shutout, then survived a 4-3 battle in Game 2. Cleveland answered with consecutive 9-3 and 9-5 victories, scoring 18 runs across those two elimination games.
Not exactly the offensive disappearing act the Guardians delivered earlier in the series.
Thursday’s Game 4 turned on a six-run sixth inning after Chicago briefly reclaimed a 4-3 lead. José Ramírez and Patrick Bailey homered, while Jo Adell delivered a two-run single during the decisive rally. The White Sox stranded 12 runners, which is a fairly expensive way to discover that missed opportunities don’t carry over to the next game.

Guardians Stats
Cleveland’s offense wasn’t exactly a fireworks factory during the regular season, batting .239 with a .316 on-base percentage and .380 slugging percentage. The Guardians hit 162 home runs, relying more on timely contact and baserunning than overwhelming power. They also stole 146 bases, giving opponents another headache once runners reach.
The pitching staff carried plenty of the load, finishing with a 3.77 ERA and 1,530 strikeouts. Cleveland’s ability to miss bats helps offset an offense that can occasionally go quiet for extended stretches.
In October, preventing a crooked number can be every bit as valuable as putting one on the board.
Ramírez remains the centerpiece of the lineup, with his switch-hitting ability and postseason experience making him Cleveland’s most dangerous individual threat. Brayan Rocchio provides additional run-producing potential, while the Guardians have received contributions from deeper in the order.
They’re not always pretty, but style points haven’t won a playoff series yet.
White Sox Stats
Chicago brings considerably more regular-season power into this matchup, having hit 211 home runs with a .406 slugging percentage. The White Sox also averaged 4.79 runs per game, making them one of the American League’s more productive offenses. This isn’t the punchless Chicago lineup bettors remember from previous seasons.
The pitching staff finished with a 4.12 ERA and 1,337 strikeouts, leaving the offense responsible for its share of heavy lifting.
Chicago can certainly score enough to beat Cleveland, but the bullpen has endured a difficult stretch at the worst possible time.
Munetaka Murakami led the White Sox with 35 home runs, while Miguel Vargas contributed 33 homers and a .250 batting average. Chase Meidroth hit .276 with 16 home runs, adding another productive bat to the lineup.
Chicago has legitimate threats throughout its order, although hitting with runners aboard is a much better idea than collecting impressive individual numbers.
White Sox vs. Guardians Pitching Matchup
Sean Burke gets the ball for Chicago after finishing the regular season 11-7 with a 3.34 ERA and 185 strikeouts. His 1.20 WHIP reflects a pitcher capable of controlling traffic on the bases.
Venable is trusting him to deliver the kind of outing that gives his offense a fighting chance.
Burke was outstanding in Game 2, allowing one run on one hit across 5 1/3 relief innings while striking out six. He retired 13 consecutive hitters during that appearance, and Chicago will start him directly Saturday rather than use an opener.
There’s a big difference between entering a game in relief and walking out for the first pitch with an entire season attached to your right arm.
Gavin Williams counters for Cleveland following a 14-8 regular season with a 3.76 ERA and 248 strikeouts. His 1.11 WHIP illustrates how difficult he can be to reach against when his command is working. Williams has the kind of power arsenal that can turn an aggressive lineup into a collection of frustrated spectators.

He struck out 11 Chicago hitters over five-plus innings in Game 2, then returned Thursday to record the final three outs of Game 4. That appearance required 18 pitches, but Vogt has confirmed Williams is ready to start under normal conditions.
It’s an unusual turnaround, although apparently nobody told Williams that postseason pitchers are supposed to enjoy their days off.
Both managers have reasons to keep their bullpen phones within reach. Cleveland’s Cade Smith threw 31 pitches Thursday, while Chicago’s Erick Fedde worked 61 and could be difficult to use Saturday.
The available relief options, rather than conventional starter workloads, may determine how aggressively each manager handles the middle innings.
Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians bottom line: With Burke and Williams carrying the starting assignments, this ALDS finale could come down to which manager makes the right pitching move before one bad inning ends a season.

White Sox Guardians Free Pick: Guardians ML -137
Here is my White Sox Guardians free pick: I’m taking Cleveland -137, and I’m not getting cute with a winner-take-all Game 5. Chicago had Cleveland by the throat, let go, and now has to finish the job in enemy territory. That’s one hell of a way to make your season harder.
The biggest reason I’m backing Cleveland is the way these lineups are likely to be managed once the game gets tight. The Guardians can put pressure on Chicago without needing three-run homers, and I trust Vogt to attack favorable matchups rather than wait around for the perfect situation. In an elimination game, patience is useful until it becomes an excuse for doing nothing.
At -137, I want the team better positioned to turn a close game into one decisive inning, not the team with the prettier regular-season numbers.
Chicago can absolutely win this game, but the White Sox have been giving away too many free baserunners. That’s a dangerous habit against an opponent willing to take walks, move runners, and make a pitcher earn every out. Cleveland doesn’t have to overpower anybody if Chicago keeps supplying the ammunition.
The -137 price carries a break-even point of approximately 58%, and that’s a number I’m willing to lay.
I’m buying the straight-up result, not asking Cleveland to win by two or predicting some dramatic ninth-inning Hollywood finish.
Give me the club I trust to capitalize on the smaller mistakes when every pitch matters.
The price is reasonable, the matchup suits Cleveland’s approach, and I’m willing to put my money behind it.
My Game 5 MLB free pick is the Guardians ML -137.
