Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Brewers Padres free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Brewers vs. Padres Gameday
The Milwaukee Brewers head to PETCO Park on Tuesday night with a 2-0 NLDS lead and a chance to finish the San Diego Padres. Game 3 is set for 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET on FS1, with Milwaukee one win from the NLCS and San Diego officially out of mulligans.
Milwaukee went 103-59 during the regular season and was plenty comfortable away from home at 48-33. The Brewers have now carried that regular-season success into October with San Diego backed against the wall.
Milwaukee needs one more win. San Diego needs three. October math gets rude in a hurry.
The Padres went 91-71 and were considerably tougher at PETCO Park, finishing 51-30 at home during the regular season.
Home field gives San Diego something to lean on, but one lousy inning can now turn the rest of October into tee times.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres Odds & Last 5
San Diego opened as the slight favorite for Game 3 at -133, with Milwaukee at +114. The Brewers opened +1.5 (-197) on the run line, the Padres -1.5 (+163), and the opening total was 7.0 with Over -117 and Under -104.
The first two games in Milwaukee were decided by one run.
The Brewers took Game 1 by a 3-2 score after Jackson Chourio and William Contreras supplied the home-run damage.
Game 2 hurt a little more if you’re wearing brown and gold. San Diego carried a lead into the bottom of the ninth before Chourio’s two-run single produced a 4-3 Milwaukee walk-off and a commanding series lead.

Padres Stats
San Diego finished the regular season with a .244 batting average, .319 on-base percentage and .398 slugging percentage. The Padres hit 183 HR and scored 722 runs, solid production without being an offense that spent six months frightening scoreboards.
Manny Machado supplied the biggest power number with 30 HR and 91 RBI.
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit .289 with 25 HR and 38 stolen bases, giving San Diego another way to create offense when the ball stays in the yard.
Ty France added a .295 average, 21 HR and 72 RBI. On the pitching side, San Diego finished with a 3.99 team ERA while allowing 180 HR.
Brewers Stats
Milwaukee’s offense was built differently. The Brewers led MLB with a .258 batting average and .341 on-base percentage while scoring 832 runs, yet their 154 HR were the second-fewest in baseball.
That combination tells the story pretty well. Milwaukee didn’t need to sit around waiting for a three-run homer, and 162 stolen bases gave Pat Murphy another way to make pitchers and catchers uncomfortable.
Brice Turang drove in a team-high 100 runs and scored 102, while Jake Bauers led Milwaukee with 26 HR.
The pitching staff did its share as well, finishing second in MLB with a 3.51 ERA.
Brewers vs. Padres Pitching Matchup
Dustin May gets the Game 3 start for Milwaukee after finishing the regular season 7-9 with a 4.70 ERA, 144 strikeouts and a 1.32 WHIP over 145 2/3 innings. Those numbers aren’t exactly Cy Young brochure material, but there is one matchup wrinkle Milwaukee will gladly take.
May faced San Diego three times this season and posted a 1.23 ERA over 22 innings. That’s a much prettier résumé against this particular lineup than his overall ERA suggests.
Nick Pivetta starts for San Diego after returning from a lengthy right elbow injury and making eight regular-season starts. He finished 3-2 with a 2.86 ERA, 42 strikeouts and a 1.01 WHIP across 34 2/3 innings.
Pivetta then worked 3 1/3 innings against the Cubs in the Wild Card round and allowed one run. Now he gets the ball with San Diego’s season attached to every pitch, which tends to shorten everyone’s patience for mistakes.
Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres bottom line: Milwaukee brings the series leverage, San Diego brings the desperation, and Game 3 has very little room for either starter to fool around.

Brewers Padres Free Pick: Under 7.5
Here is my Brewers Padres free pick: I’m betting Under 7.5. The half-run above seven matters, and I’m willing to pay for it in an elimination game where neither manager has any reason to leave a pitcher out there one batter too long.
October is not the time for loyalty points with a struggling arm.
San Diego’s bullpen was its biggest pitching strength all summer, and now every useful reliever is available with the season on the line. That gives me a much better path to seven runs or fewer than simply hoping the starters trade zeroes all night.
At 7.5, a 4-3 game is beautiful. I don’t need beautiful baseball, only beautiful math.
The number also gives us room to absorb one ugly inning. Somebody can put three on the board and this ticket is still perfectly healthy, which is important because postseason baseball has a nasty habit of turning one walk into three runs while you’re reaching for the remote.
What I don’t want is a back-and-forth slugfest, and I don’t see either club having much incentive to manage this game casually.
San Diego is fighting for tomorrow, while Milwaukee can end the series tonight.
Seven cashes. Eight beats me.
Give me Under 7.5.
