The Cubs and Mets will begin a series on Monday evening from Citi Field.
Javier Assad and Chris Bassitt are the slated starters in this contest.
Given the difference between these two teams, it is no surprise that New York is such a big favorite. The total opened at 8.5 and is now down to 8.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs took the first game of their last series with the Giants but dropped the next two including a 4-2 loss on Sunday Night Baseball.
This club definitely had some opportunities to play decent baseball against a Giants team that really is not anything great, but they were largely unable to do so in that series.
One theme that was pretty clear for this group in the series with San Francisco was the lack of offense as they scored just a combined eight runs.
In their last loss, they were actually able to out-hit the Giants 12-8, but they had nothing to show for it with just 2 runs. There is no question they had some chances to get across more runs, but the opposing pitchers got the job done when they had to.
Wade Miley started it off on Sunday and he tossed five innings and allowed one earned run to go along with five punchouts.
The bullpen, which has often had problems this season was unable to get it done as Hayden Wesneski allowed four hits and three runs in 3.2 innings of work.
It will only get trickier for Chicago as they now have to hit the road to face off with the Mets who are one of the best teams in the sport. It could end up being a long series for the Cubs.
Javier Assad will be on the bump in the opener and he has looked solid in limited experience this year. So far, he is 0-1 with an ERA of 2.93 and WHIP of 1.43 to go along with 7 walks and 12 strikeouts.
New York Mets
The Mets keep on playing very good baseball which is pretty much what they have done for the entirety of the season.
Things did not start off how they would have liked in their series with the Marlins, but they did a nice job of responding in the next two games to take down a team they are simply better than.
Offensively, they did not do a ton in the opener with Miami, but that was quite the opposite in the remaining two games as they scored 11 runs on Saturday and 9 runs on Sunday.
Last time out they really were able to get to starter Jesus Luzardo and then did more damage against the bullpen for the Fish.
In total, New York tallied 14 hits on Sunday and five players were able to record multiple hits on the afternoon.
Taijuan Walker delivered seven innings while allowing five hits and just one earned run to go along with ten strikeouts in their last victory. He continues to pitch well for this team and is a big reason for how well they have played in 2022.
The Mets once again get an opportunity to play a team they are much better than and it is critical they take care of business in this series. Given how close it is between them and the Braves, they just cannot afford to play down to their competition against Chicago.
Chris Bassitt will get the start on Monday and he will look to replicate what he did against the Pirates in his last start where he struck out ten batters in seven innings of work.

I see this is a game that is going to be hard for the Cubs to pull off and I really do not love their chances in this spot.
As we saw on Sunday, strong starting pitching for the Cubs does not always translate to victories as their bullpen is quite shaky which is certainly something the Mets can take advantage of here.
Bassitt is more than capable of keeping an offense that is not very good in check and handing it to the bullpen.
This could be close for a while, but I eventually expect New York to just be too much in this one.
