Chicago Cubs
Kyle Hendricks has made at least 30 starts in four out of the last five seasons, which earned him a new four-year deal in the offseason.
He won’t get to 30 this season but he hasn’t missed on yet, going 2-1 in his first three, including a shutout in his first outing of the year and seven strong innings in his last.
After nearly a week off, the Cubs weren’t rusty in their return to action on Tuesday night, winning 7–1.
Cleveland Indians
Carlos Carrasco suffered through his worst season in many years in 2019. He wasn’t completely healthy; nor could he get comfortable as a starter or relief pitcher.
So far, 2020 has been different. All three of his starts have been of the quality variety. He’s gone six innings in all three and given up a total of five earned runs, striking out 23 and walking six.
He has so far been nasty on left-handers, who are hitting down below .150 against him this season.
His split has a lot to do with that. It serves as his changeup and runs down and away to those left-handers. That’s how he picks up many of his strikeouts.
