Chicago Cubs
The Cubs lost the final two games of their three with Detroit earlier this week and have gone just 5–9 in their last 14 games but remain comfortably on top of the NL Central.
Kyle Hendricks has lost his last two games but he didn’t pitch badly in either. His ERA did jump from 3.08 to 3.55, however.
His WHIP (1.00) remains fantastic and he’s fourth on the Cubs’ roster in wins above replacement.
Jason Kipnis has also provided a lift after failing to attract much attention from the rest of the Major League teams.
He started red hot but hasn’t homered in his last 15 games. His batting average has dropped in that time from .429 to .265.
Cincinnati Reds
Wade Miley has bounced around ever since he left Arizona, where he started his career and spent his first four seasons.
In the six seasons since then, he’s pitched for Boston, Seattle, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Houston and now Cincinnati.
He was very productive in each of his last two seasons with Milwaukee and Houston with an ERA+ over 130 averaged out.
This season hasn’t started as strongly. He failed to get through the first two innings in his first two starts but did complete five frames in his most recent start.
He’s lost all three of his starts and will go into this game as a decided ‘dog.
