Boston Red Sox
Boston beat Tampa Bay, 4–3, on Thursday by pushing a run across in the seventh against the Rays’ bullpen.
Rafael Devers drove in that go-ahead run, one of his three RBIs in the game. He scuffled to start the season but he’s hot now.
Going into Friday’s game, Devers was hitting .452 with a 1.463 OPS and 15 RBIs in his last 11 games.
The Red Sox’ bullpen has somehow stabilized, though it still isn’t good. Ryan Brasier and Matt Barnes got the last six outs in Thursday’s victory.
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa’s loss on Thursday was its third in a row, the first such losing streak for the Rays in over a month.
The Rays have been smoking since the middle of August, however, a streak that does, in part, coincide with Tyler Glasnow’s improvement.
After his fourth start of the season, which came against Boston in a game Tampa Bay won, 17–8, Glasnow had a 7.04 ERA.
Since, he’s gone 2–0 in four starts and cut his ERA down to 4.35 with five runs allowed in 24 innings.
