Boston Red Sox
Chris Sale punched out ten in six innings on Friday night but gave up a couple of clutch hits with runners on and received little support from his offense in a 4–1 loss.
Make that three losses in a row against the Yankees to start this season for Boston, which lost two in the Bronx earlier in April, when the Red Sox were still scuffling. Thursday’s game was postponed and now the Sox have two more chances in New York to get their first win of the season against the Yankees.

Boston struck first when Rafael Devers led off the second inning with a solo shot but then didn’t score again. JA Happ went five for New York and then the quad of Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zach Britton, and Aroldis Chapman each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
David Price was good the last time out against Cleveland but he didn’t get any run support. He’s been good all season, actually. Price leads Boston’s rotation in ERA, WHIP, and WAR.
New York Yankees
A lot of Yankees looked bad against Chris Sale on Friday but DJ LaMahieu had two big hits and Aaron Hicks another that brought in runs when the opportunity presented itself.
Gary Sanchez also made a terrific throw down to second to pick-off Eduardo Nunez to end the inning and a Boston scoring threat with Andrew Benintendi at the plate.

Sabathia missed his last scheduled start with inflammation in his knee. He’s gotten it under control with some rest and appears good to go on Sunday. He’s gone more than five innings just once in his eight starts so far but has yet to fail to finish at least that many.
Aaron Boone will likely use the same kind of strategy out of the bullpen that he executed with JA Happ starting on Friday. It would certainly help if he got six or seven innings out of Esteban German on Saturday.
