Boston Red Sox
Boston evened the series with a 7–5 win on Sunday night. David Price wasn’t great but the offense put runs on the board early against Gerrit Cole and tacked on what turned out to be important insurance in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Mookie Betts did significant damage at the top of the lineup for really the first time in this postseason. He went 2-for-4, walked, drove in a run and scored twice, including an important insurance run when he went first-to-home on three balls by the catcher.
The Red Sox’ lineup has been quiet for some time now, dating back into the regular season. JD Martinez went 0-for-4 on Sunday and Andrew Benintendi got an important knock in the first inning that scored the first run of the game but went 0-for-4 after that. Xander Bogaerts has been quiet, as has been customary in the postseason.
Nathan Eovaldi and Rick Porcello were huge in the ALDS. The Yankees had the momentum and the home field after the first two games and then the two righties went on the road and shut it down.
They’ll be asked to do the same in Houston. I assume it’ll be Eovaldi because that’s what Alex Cora did in the ALDS after Porcello threw an inning in Game 1. Porcello came out of the ‘pen in Game 2 this time around.
It’s clear Houston’s offense isn’t nearly as explosive as it was last season. Tyler White may look like Evan Gattis, but he isn’t as dangerous with a bat in his hands. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve are hobbled.
The ‘Stros are really depending on George Springer and Alex Bregman. Production out of Yuli Gurriel and Marwin Gonzalez was more of a bonus last season; this year, it’s imperative.
Houston also doesn’t have the depth to match up as well with righties as it does with lefties. The Astros may be going home, but the game may get tougher from an offensive standpoint going up against two right-handers, who, frankly, are throwing better than either of Boston’s high-profile lefties.
It’ll either be Morton or Keuchel in Game 3. Gerrit Cole was supposed to be the guy who made the Astros better than last season but he lost his first start of the series so he may as well be Brad Peacock, at least thus far.
It’s strange. The American League was so dominant all season but I feel like whatever team emerges from this series should be an underdog to Los Angeles.

Free Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros MLB Prediction: under.
I like Eovaldi in his hometown of Houston. I’m actually more concerned about the Sox scoring; perhaps I’ll just play them as ‘dogs, even though I’m predicting a Houston win.
