The Orioles and Blue Jays will be facing off for the second game of their series on Tuesday evening.
Dean Kremer and Alek Manoah are the expected starting pitchers in this one.
Toronto is a very big favorite at home in this spot. I did see some totals open a little higher, but most spots are at 8.5.
Baltimore Orioles
A day after scoring just one run, the Orioles did a good job of bouncing back and picked up the 7-3 win over the Blue Jays to start off the series.
It did not seem very likely before the season started, but this group has played quite well against Toronto so far and they currently lead the season series 5-2.
On Monday, starter Kyle Bradish lasted 4.2 innings while allowing three earned runs and punching out five. Also, he did allow six hits and walked five men, but his opponent did not make him pay as much as they should have.
The bullpen, which has been so reliable this season, combined to go 4.1 innings in their last win and did not allow a run while allowing just two hits.
In his return to the lineup, Ryan Mountcastle hit a two-run home run and he did not appear to miss a beat. With a hitter with his capabilities back in the order, it makes their offense just that much more balanced.
Ryan McKenna was also able to pick up three hits in the winning effort and he drove in one run. In total, the O’s had eight hits on the night.
Baltimore knows that Tuesday evening will be tricky with Toronto’s ace on the hill, but they were able to get the win when he pitched against them last time out. At this point, I feel like the Birds are confident no matter who it is they are facing off against.
Dean Kremer will be toeing the slab for the second game and he has been better this season than he has been in the past. I would not say it has been anything that stands out, but he has been an effective arm in this rotation.
Toronto Blue Jays
The struggles for the Blue Jays kept up on Monday with their loss to the Orioles and they once again proved why they are often labeled as an inconsistent ball club.
In their last 10 games, they are 3-7 and have been outscored 14-5 in their last two contests. It is pretty hard to win ball games that way.
Going into this season, they felt like they could really do some damage against Baltimore and that simply has not happened so far. These two teams still see a lot of each other for the remainder of the season, so they could improve against them, but I would not bank on that to happen.
The Jays were able to scatter eight hits around the park in Monday’s losing effort, but it did not matter in the end. There were plenty of times where they could have done more against Bradish, but they let him off the hook and then had no answers for their bullpen.
Yusei Kikuchi kept up his struggles in the loss as he went just 3.1 innings and allowed four hits and three earned runs. His command was not very good and he is pitching like a guy who just does not have a ton of confidence which is very concerning to the Jays and their fans.
Toronto also had two errors in this one. All in all, it was not a very good showing by them and they are going to need to bounce back on Tuesday.
Just when they seem to be turning the page and playing better baseball, they seem to go backward. The bottom line is they have not won on a regular enough basis in 2022 and it is very fair to say what they have done to this point is a disappointment.
Getting the ball in this game is Alek Manoah and he will look to keep up what he has done the whole season. When he faced the Birds last time, they were able to hit him pretty well, but he did do a good job of limiting the damage.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Over is 9-0-2 in the Orioles’ last 11 during game 2 of a series.
- The Over is 4-0 in the Orioles’ last 4 vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
- The Over is 9-3 in the Blue Jays’ last 13 vs. the AL East.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction:
This is a game where I see a good amount of runs scored. It might not be a slugfest, but I also do not think it is going to be a low-scoring affair.
Kremer has been alright this season, but he is very hittable and this is a good opportunity for the Toronto offense to get back on track after scoring just three runs in the prior game.
I would expect Manoah to mostly be effective here, but the O’s can still get a couple off of him and get into a bullpen that has not been the most trustworthy.
My play is the over of 8.5 in this spot.
