The Orioles will be on the road to take on the Rangers for the second game of their series on Tuesday night.
Jordan Lyles will be opposed by Spencer Howard in this one.
At the moment, Texas is a small favorite at home and there has not been a lot of movement from the opening total of 8.5.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles were able to pick up their 52nd win of the season on Monday evening and they keep on playing an impressive brand of baseball.
This team is only 2.5 games out of the last Wild Card Spot at the moment. Getting to this win amount does have some significance because they were only able to get 52 wins total a season ago.
Given how poorly this team has played in past seasons, the idea of them being in the playoffs might seem odd at first, but there is a chance they could be playing postseason baseball.
In the opening win over Texas, Spenser Watkins put forth a strong outing as he went six innings while allowing one earned run on five hits. Also, he was able to record five strikeouts, which is not exactly high, but he has not been a guy who has missed a ton of bats in 2022 so that was good to see for him.
After he departed, Keegan Akin did allow an earned run in his two innings of work but still got the job done.
Hours after Baltimore traded Trey Mancini to the Astros, the offense for this group really did not miss a beat as they picked up twelve hits and seven runs.
Cedric Mullins, Adley Rutschman, Ryan Mountcastle, and Jorge Mateo were all able to get multi-hit games in the victory. Overall, it was a game where they performed well on both sides of the field.
Jordan Lyles will get a chance to face off with his former team on Tuesday and the numbers have not been all that impressive. He has put forth some solid starts at times, but he has also gotten hit quite hard and has not always limited the damage.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers did not start off the series how they would have liked and the struggles with the Orioles this season continue.
Starter Jon Gray had to come out of the game on Monday in the second inning after he was feeling some discomfort in his side. That is never the news any team wants to hear about a guy that was a big off-season acquisition.
While Gray was out there, he was not overly effective as he allowed four hits and three earned runs in just 1.1 innings. There is a good chance he was not feeling great for the whole time he was out there.
The bullpen, which is not exactly a strength for Texas, allowed eight hits and three earned runs for the remainder of the game. It was not horrible, but they were really looking to keep the O’s quieter after their quick start.
The Rangers really did not do all that much on offense their last time out. They did record seven hits, but that did not amount to a lot.
To me, I would have liked to see them do more against Watkins, who has proven to be hittable a number of times this year. I get Baltimore has a strong pen, but they are not exactly throwing elite starters out there.
A theme for this team all season long has been inconsistency. They have shown the ability to play well and look like a good team at times, but there have been plenty of times where the opposite is true.
Texas will be turning to Spencer Howard on Tuesday and is coming off a strong outing against the Angels where he went five innings and did not allow an earned run. Still, the overall numbers for him have not been pretty and he will be in for a big challenge in this one.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Orioles are 8-0 in their last 8 vs. the AL West.
- The Orioles are 7-2 in their last 9 games after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.
- The Rangers are 5-11 in their last 16 overall.
- The Rangers are 9-27 in their last 36 vs. the AL East.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
The Orioles were able to follow a pretty simple script in the opener and I do feel they can have similar results in the second game.
Neither starter in this spot has been great but I do trust Lyles more here and more specifically, I have more faith in Baltimore when the game gets into the hands of the bullpen.
Right now, Baltimore is the better team and they know they cannot afford to slip up in this spot here.
As a short dog on the road, I like the Orioles.
