Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore just too back to back games against Boston and is looking to extend that streak in this one. The odd thing this season is maybe they were supposed to win those games. This team has played a lot better than expected this season.
The O’s are a shocking 4th in batting average and 9th in homers. They are only 12th in scoring but the fact that any of those numbers are in the top half of the league is impressive. I would have thought 25th would have been the ceiling fo this club in any one of those categories.
The Orioles had an off day on Monday so I am not sure why the starting pitcher is such a mystery here. Tommy Milone had this spot the last couple but the lefty is not very good generally. He has kept them in most games this season.
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa split in a wraparound weekend series against Toronto. They are still in first though as the Yankees were off thanks to the Mets and COVID-19. I am still not sure what to make of this year’s version of Tampa.
That is because they are a very surprising 5th in scoring. That seems like a bit of cluster luck though as their hitting and slugging numbers don’t really support that level of production. That likely means there is some regression in the near future.
Ty Glasnow has 35 strikeouts in 21 innings, an impressive rate. It would be more impressive if his ERA wasn’t 6 and he actually had a win this season. Still, he can make a lineup look pretty silly and Baltimore might be due for some regression too.
