Baltimore Orioles
It has not been what you would call a smooth start for the Orioles. When is it with this team, though?
They are playing how everyone in the baseball world thought they would. Unless something crazy happened, we knew this team would do a whole lot of losing in the 2022 season.
It is crazy to think this club was actually relevant at one time because they have been so irrelevant over the last number of years and that will likely continue.
Whenever these guys face off with the Yankees it is never a good matchup for them. New York is a better team all the way around the field and will likely dominate the season series even though they have played down to their competition before.
Baltimore lost the first game of the series by a score of 12-8. When you score 8 runs, you should be able to win, but that is not the case when the pitching is that bad.
It has been a known fact for a while now that the pitching for Baltimore is very bad and yet, they do not do much about it. They should get used to giving up tons of runs with this group they have.
Jordan Lyles went 4.2 innings and allowed 6 earned runs on Tuesday. He was very effective against the Bombers in the first meeting but none of that carried over to the Bronx.
Tyler Wells will get the start in game 2 and it will be interesting to see how long he will go. He does not have a win yet and has an ERA close to 7.
New York Yankees
The Yankees are playing good baseball and they have been playing better as of late. It is early, but it is a good sign of what they have been able to do so far.
So far, they have beaten some weaker teams but have also had success against some better ones. Clearly, the team they are facing in this series falls in the first category.
Early on, the offense had not really clicked but they do seem to be getting better in that area. Sometimes all it takes is a few series against the Guardians and Orioles.
The pitching has been pretty strong the whole season, especially the bullpen. There are a lot of guys they can go to in critical spots out of the pen, which is always a good thing for a manager.
Right now, New York has a record of 11-6 and they trail the Blue Jays by half a game. Those games against Toronto are certainly going to be huge for this team.
In terms of the division, I still feel the Jays are the best team and the team to beat. As is the case in most years, the East is going to be very competitive.
In their win on Tuesday, Luis Severino went 6 innings and allowed 4 earned runs. He still is not in the vintage Severino form but he has looked ok this year.
Next up in the rotation is Jordan Montgomery. He may not be the most flashy pitcher they have but he seems to produce solid outings and is going to be a big part of this team if they want to go far.

I see Montgomery putting forth a strong effort but the Birds can still score some.
