Two teams with low expectations that were the “stars” of the first weekend, each taking their series 2-1. I wonder what odds you could have got for that parlay. I missed that action but somebody benefitted for sure.
Orioles are going to be challenged to keep up their winning ways, even against a team like Miami. I am not buying into them.
Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore’s pitching has not been good, they are 28th in ERA, yes from a small sample size of course. Playing Boston did not help either. Those guys can hit.
However, they are 8th in scoring coming into Monday, that is much better than expected. Of course they can’t keep that up and of course Chris Davis is still terrible, 1 for 11 so far.
Kohn Stewart has seen a little MLB action over the last couple of seasons with Minnesota. The only bright spot is that their record for development is solid so maybe he can be better than he has shown.
Miami Marlins
Miami’s early success has also been a result of better than expected hitting – they are 6th in the league in scoring heading into Monday thanks to some hot starts.
Their pitching has not been as good though, two of their starters could not even complete four innings. That is a disturbing trend for long term success.
Elieser Hernandez can miss some bats but he also gets hit hard. That combo seems a little less daunting when taking on a team like Baltimore that does not have a ton of power.
