The Orioles will be in Chicago to take on the White Sox for the third game of their series on Saturday afternoon.
Chicago has lost the first two games and will look to get back on track in this one.
Spenser Watkins will be opposed by Lance Lynn in this one.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have been a surprising team this season and it has been for a good reason. They have actually shown some glimpses of being a good team, which simply has not been the case for a while.
I think a lot of people were under the impression that this would be some bottom-feeder team that would be an easy out, but that has not been the case. The Birds have shown some resistance this season and it has happened at times against some of the better teams.
There is no question that the rotation still has a long way to go, but there has been a major improvement in their bullpen in 2022 and really, it has been a strength of theirs.
For a long time now, the goal of the other team was to get to the Baltimore starter and then feast off of their pen. Now that they are better in that area, that might not be the mindset anymore.
They still have a long way to go before they become truly relevant, but they at least have some sort of direction with their team. If they can keep building their team with proven people and prospects, then it is possible they could get back to being a good team.
With the AL East being as tough as it is, the path to getting back to where they want is not going to be easy. As of right now, there are 4 teams in the division that are clearly better than them and it does not appear as if they will be going anywhere anytime soon.
Baltimore picked up their second win of the series on Friday by a score of 4-1. In this series so far, they have been able to get strong pitching and enough offense to get the job done.
Spenser Watkins will be on the hill here and is a guy they have to get on track. His numbers have not been all that great and he will have his hands full when facing this lineup on Saturday.
Chicago White Sox
As the games go on, the White Sox continue to be more disappointing. It is hard to have all that much optimism with this team right about now.
Simply put, this is a team that had high expectations heading into the year and they have not lived up to them. Unless they really get better as the year goes on, this is going to be who they are for the rest of it.
The one advantage this team does have is they do not play in a great division. Despite them not playing good baseball, they still find themselves just 4.5 games out of 1st place and it is still possible they could win it when all is said and done.
In a lot of other divisions, having the kind of record they have would totally bury a team, but that is not the case here. Minnesota and Cleveland are not some great teams, so when the Sox get a chance to face off with them, they have to take advantage of those games.
This is a team that knows they need to really figure out, but they still have not been able to do so. They are not playing with a lot of urgency at an important part of the season and that has to be frustrating to the fans.
I get that the Orioles are an improved team, but there is no excuse for Chicago to lose the first two games of the series. The most frustrating part about that series so far for them is that they have scored just 1 run in 2 games.
Michael Kopech put forth a solid outing in game 2, but it did not matter. The offense decided to now show up, which really cost them.
Lance Lynn gets the ball here and has been up and down since returning to the rotation. He has shown signs of being himself, but he still has not been the guy he has been in the past yet and that will take some time.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Orioles are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. the AL Central.
- The Orioles are 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The White Sox are 6-14 in their last 20 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The White Sox are 2-5 in their last 7 home games.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox MLB Prediction:
The Orioles have done just what they needed to do in the first two games and they will look to keep that up here.
Chicago has a clear advantage with the starting pitcher and then should take care of business, but I still do not see this being an easy one for them.
In a spot like this, it is hard to trust laying the runs with Chicago. I could see this being a close game at the end.
Give me the Orioles at +1.5 here.
