The Braves will be taking on the Nationals for game 2 of their series on Tuesday, June 14th.
Max Fried is going for the Braves and it has not been announced who is going for the Nationals.
As someone would expect, Atlanta is a very big favorite on the road in this spot.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves have really turned things around and they suddenly are one of the hottest teams in the sport.
After trading wins and losses and not looking like themselves, Atlanta really began to find themselves and is now playing like the team we thought they were.
With the victory on Monday, this club extended its win streak to 12 in a row. No, they have not exactly played anybody great in that span, but they have taken advantage of their level of competition, which is what they have to do.
Just a little while ago, it looked like the NL East was for the Mets to run away with, but that is no longer the case. During this hot streak, the Braves have really been able to cut into the lead that New York holds at the top.
Right now, Atlanta holds a record of 35-27 and trails the Mets by 5 games. You know both of these teams will be motivated to play in their head-to-head contests.
Something that has been apparent during this streak is the offense being more productive and frankly, taking advantage of some bad pitching. With the guys they have in the lineup, it was only a matter of time before they figured things outs, but there is no question they did start off sluggish in that department.
The Braves know their season will get much tougher as the year goes on, which is why beating teams like the Nats are so important. They did just what they needed to on Monday with the 9-5 victory.
Max Fried will be getting the start in this one and he will look to keep up what he already has done. The lefty is 6-2 with an ERA of 2.64 so far.
Washington Nationals
This season has not been one that has treated the Nationals all that well and that does not seem like it will change much.
When I examine this team and see how they play, I cannot say that their brutal play is all that surprising. It is pretty much what I expected from them.
It was acknowledged heading into the 2022 season that Washington was not going to be very good. Unless something really crazy happened, there was a very good chance they would find themselves in the basement of the NL East.
As a baseball fan, it is really crazy for me to think this team just won the World Series back in 2019. I get that a lot of the key players on that club are no longer there, but it just seems all too common for a team to win it all and then have years or irrelevancy in this sport.
Washington will try and pitch people the idea that they are in rebuild mode, but I do not exactly know what it is they are building. Even if they were going to have a season in which tons of wins would not pile up, I would at least like to see some sort of direction and I do not see that.
Unless the Nats really go out there and drastically improve this team, I think you will see more of the same from them in the years to follow. The rest of the division is just too good for me to see it shaking out any other way.
This series with the defending champs was clearly going to be a big test for this group and things went as expected in the opener. If that game is any indication, the rest of the series could be pretty ugly for D.C.
It is unofficial at this time who is getting the nod in game 2. At this point, does it really matter who it is?
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Braves are 6-0 in their last 6 games when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in the previous game.
- The Braves are 11-0 in their last 11 games following a win.
- The Nationals are 17-40 in their last 57 home games.
- The Nationals are 14-46 in their last 60 vs. the NL East.
Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals MLB Prediction:
This is a battle between two teams that are going in different directions and I look for Atlanta to keep on rolling.
Fried has been sharp this season and knows if he is on, this is a lineup he can do very well against.
Whoever ends up starting for the Nationals, is going to have a tough time with this lineup. Once the Braves get to him and into that bullpen, it could be a long night for the home team.
Give me the Braves laying the runs here.
