Atlanta Braves
The Braves beat Jacob DeGrom for the fifth time this season. Well, they beat him for the second time but beat the Mets for the fifth time in a game he started, 2–1 on Friday night.
Anibal Sanchez is fun to watch, blowing guys away with 88-mile-per-hour fastballs and making them look silly swinging at 68-mile-per-hour breaking stuff. He gave up two hits in six innings, one of them being an RBI single by DeGrom.

If the Braves can win again on Saturday, this one will be for a sweep. Julio Teheran hasn’t been great this season, nor has he been terrible; he’s been inconsistent. But against the Mets, he shouldn’t have any problem.
The Phillies won again on Friday, too, so the Braves remain a half-game back in the NL East, though they have played three fewer games and only trail by one in the loss column.
New York Mets
Corey Oswalt has only started five games as a rookie and appeared in one other out of the bullpen but his numbers are a little strange in the small sample.
His WHIP is very good, under 1.00, but his ERA is in the mid-fives and is 73 when normalized as an ERA+.

He isn’t a guy who can go deep into games yet. He’s gone six innings just once and has mostly gone four or five innings, even in his one appearance out of the ‘pen, when he threw the last four-and-two-thirds in an eight-run loss.
The only explanation I have for the ERA/WHIP discrepancy is that Oswalt is really bad at stranding runners because his home run rate isn’t outrageous (1.66 per nine), though it certainly isn’t good.
That makes sense for a rookie. The good news is that he’s keeping guys off base, which is more than half the battle.
