Atlanta Braves
As this is being written Atlanta is at .500 tied with the Mets for second place in the NL East. That spot feels right as I question whether this team has what it takes to make the playoffs again. The lineup can be fearsome especially with the likes of Dansby Swanson finally hitting – he leads the team in RBIS and is co leader in homers so far. Josh Donaldson has shown he has something left in the tank and he is always ripe for a super hot month.

It is the Braves pitching that has be wondering about their real potential. Julio Teheran’s strikeout rate is up but he has never become an elite pitcher. His homer rate is up too and he has been murdered at home this season – ERA over 7. The Braves bullpen has a negative WAR right now. They are not the worst but they are not far off.
Miami Marlins
Miami is the only team in the league that has yet to notch their 10th victory this season. That is no real surprise as they have the worst offense in the league and their pitching is only slightly better. Catcher Jorge Alfaro, acquired from Philly is showing that he can play as a full timer but the rest of the lineup should mostly be in the Minors. Miguel Rojas leads the team in average at .282 but those are some pretty empty calories.

Pablo Lopez got his feet wet last season and will be given every opportunity this one to see if he is a Major League starter. His ratios are a little better this season but there is still not a lot to get excited about. The Marlins are one of a handful of teams that actually have a worse bullpen than Atlanta, thought that should not really be much of a surprise.
