The Diamondbacks and Padres will begin a series on Monday evening from Petco Park.
San Diego opened as a big favorite and that has remained true as they are right around -225 in this spot. So far, the total has stayed right at 8.
Ryne Nelson will be making his debut for the D-Backs in this and he will be opposed by Blake Snell.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks were quite impressive in their last series as they were able to take three out of four games from the Brewers which definitely surprised some people.
It might not mean all that much when the season is over, but it is still a good sign for this team and it is something they will try and build off in this series with the Padres.
In the 5-1 win on Sunday, Zac Gallen kept up his scoreless streak as he fired seven innings and allowed just two hits while punching out seven batters.
The streak for this right-hander is now at 41.1 innings and it does not look as if he is going to stop there. During this span, there is no question he has been one of the best starters in the league.
Daulton Varsho had two hits and an RBI while Jake McCarthy also picked up two hits and 3 RBI in the victory. In total, the Snakes had eight hits on Sunday.
Arizona will once again get a chance to face off with a tough opponent as they open up this series with the Padres on Monday. Although their opponent is better than them, it could be one of those series that goes either way.
Ryne Nelson will be getting the start here and he is going to have a heckuva challenge in his debut when he tries to slow down one of the best offenses in the sport.
San Diego Padres
Once again, the Padres did not look very good in their last series with the Dodgers and it is still very clear who the best team among those two are.
They did pick up a 7-1 win in the first game of the series but followed that up by losing 12-1 and 9-4. Really, those results are just more of the same for this group when they take on their divisional foe.
In the loss on Sunday, Mike Clevinger was not very effective as he lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed four hits and five earned runs on the night.
The bullpen was fine for a bit, but when Adrian Morejon came in, he did not even record an out and gave up three hits and four earned runs.
San Diego was able to get eight hits last time out, but they really did not have much to show for it. Aside from a few bumps, the bullpen for the Dodgers did what they needed to do to keep this lineup in check.
This last series was once again another reality check for the Padres. People can talk all they want about how talented they are and who they acquired, but the bottom line is there is still a big gap between them and the Dodgers and Los Angeles has owned them for a very long time now.
The Friars will hope this series with the Diamondbacks brings them some different results than their series with Los Angeles, but there is certainly no guarantee as their opponent has displayed many times this season that they are not an easy out.
Blake Snell will get the ball to start off this series and he really needs to go out and have a strong outing. This is a guy that once again had high hopes this season, but the consistency just has not been there and he has not pitched like the guy he was advertised as.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Diamondbacks are 19-56 in their last 75 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Diamondbacks are 37-78 in their last 115 games vs. the NL West.
- The Padres are 7-1 in their last 8 games vs. a team with a losing record.
- The Padres are 5-1 in their last 6 games after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres MLB Prediction:
I liked what the Diamondbacks were able to do against the Brewers, but I am not sold on their chances to open things up with the Padres.
Nelson is going to be in a very tricky spot when he faces this explosive offense for the first time in the big leagues and I do not have a ton of trust in him here.
Snell has been too up-and-down this year, but he did look sharp in his last start against the Giants and I look for him to at least be solid against this offense.
