Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona definitely has its mojo back and it is not surprising that it came when Paul Goldschmidt started playing better. He and AJ Pollock are pretty dynamic players but Pollock looks to be out until at least next month. They are looking more and more like the team they were a year ago.

Clay Buchholz is hardly a high ceiling guy but he is getting the job done for Arizona. The team is in the top ten for quality starts and most nights he can give them one of those. He has been much stingier on the road too this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh is in a slow decline and taking on the good teams like Arizona are not helping. Even though they are in the upper half in offense I think the bats are the problem. In the first two games of the series they only scored 4 runs and only seven in their last four games.

Trevor William has been the unexpected wins leader for the Pirates this season. The peripherals check out too but he is definitely not an ace. He has shown a good ability to get hitters to hit it to the defense and keep the ball in the yard. I know it isn’t sexy.
