The pitching matchup sees Humberto Castellanos going up against David Peterson.
New York is currently a considerable favorite in this one and the total is sitting at 8.5.
Arizona Diamondbacks
When you go around the league, there are really not many people that are high on this Diamondbacks team and that should not surprise anyone.
Unless they totally shock folks, it is going to be a season where they do a whole lot of losing which is something they have become used to for a while now.
I know it is early, but at 3-5, it looks like it is going to be more of the same from this team in 2022. It is a very real possibility that they could lose over 100 games and people would not even think twice about it.
In the first two games with the Mets, the Snakes have split them and they did pick up a win over the Mets on Saturday by a score of 3-2.
If they were able to win this series over the Mets, that would be something they could build off. I am not sure what it would amount to in the grand scheme of things but that is not how they are thinking.
Zac Gallen went 4 innings and did not allow an earned run on Saturday. Although he did not give them great length, he was effective and was able to keep a very good offense in check.
The offense was not great for the D-Backs in their last game, but they were able to get to the New York bullpen and get a few runs on the board.
Humberto Castellanos will get the start on Sunday and he will look to be much better than he was last time out. He will be in for a big challenge when he faces off with this offense.
New York Mets
There is no question that the expectations were very high for the Mets going into the season and for good reason.
On paper, they have a very talented team and there is going to be a lot of pressure on them to put it all together and win a championship. Their owner did not go out there and spend all that money to just be competitive.
In the early part of the season, this team sits with a record of 6-3 and they are in 1st place in the National League East. There is no question that the division is going to be competitive this season and I would expect the Mets to be in the thick of things when all is said and done.
Before this series with the Diamondbacks, the Mets won 2 games out of 3 from the Phillies in Philadelphia. Needless to say, wins over teams like that are going to be huge for them.
Now, they have to go out there and win this series with Arizona. After they lost the second game of the series, it would be a very bad look if they lost again and could not salvage this series with this team.
Carlos Carrasco went 5 innings, did not allow an earned run, and struck out 8 batters on Saturday. If he can give the Mets that kind of production throughout the season, they would sign up for that any day of the week.
Simply put, the offense was not good enough for them in their last game. It is not ok to just score two runs when you face off with a pitching staff that is not very good.
David Peterson will look to get his team back to their winning ways when he gets the nod on Sunday. I am not sure exactly what to expect from him in this one, but we will see what happens.

Neither one of these starting pitchers are all that great and it would not shock me if we see some runs in this ball game.
It would kind of surprise me if this turned out to be a 3-2 type of game.
