Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have played better than what a lot of people thought by this point in the year. They have been one of the biggest surprises in the sport so far.
This team has been so bad for a while now, that you just begin to expect them to have a down year. It is so out of the ordinary for them to actually be relevant.
Of course, there is still a long way to go in the season which is important to keep in mind with their record. It is still very possible that they could revert back and be one of the worst teams in the sport.
Coming into this game, Arizona holds a record of 18-17 and is 4th in the NL West. The fact that they only trail the Dodgers by 4 games is certainly encouraging for them.
Speaking of the Dodgers, this series with them is going to be a big test for Arizona. They played them tough in Arizona earlier and will look to have similar results here against one of the best teams in baseball.
The D-Backs are coming off a series in which they dropped two of three from the Cubs. That is not something that could have made these guys happy at all.
Arizona took the first game of the series but then dropped the next two games and only scored 2 runs in each of them. That simply cannot happen.
Humberto Castellanos pitched a solid game on Sunday but did not get a lot of run support. The Snakes hope that is different when Madison Bumgarner gets the ball on Monday evening.
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers have played a very impressive brand of baseball so far. Sure, they have had their hiccups here and there, but that is bound to happen.
When you look at the whole picture thus far, it is hard to be all that critical of what they have done. They are certainly one of the best teams in baseball and a deep playoff run and potential World Series are not out of reach.
Just because I said that it can be hard to critique them, does not mean I will not do it. This series with the Phillies was not a good one at all for them and they know that.
First off, the pitching was dreadful for them during the span of the four games. When you have the kind of arms that the Dodgers do, allowing that many runs are never acceptable.
Look, I know Philadelphia features a potent offense and is going to score a million runs this year. That does not matter. Allowing 33 runs to any team in that amount of games is never a good look and it has to get fixed.
Certainly, a series with Arizona is a good opportunity for their starters and pen to get back on track but nothing is for certain. LA is hoping that their past series was a one-off and it will not continue.
Tony Gonsolin will be getting the start here and he comes into this contest with a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 1.33. It is a pretty good thing to have that guy as your fifth starter.
He may not be the flashiest arm they feature but he is very solid. More times than not, he goes out there and puts forth a quality outing that gives his team a chance to win the ball game.

Gonsolin has been quite effective the whole year and I see that continuing in this one. I look for the LA offense to do enough against both Bumgarner and the pen.
