MLB Nationals Predictions & Handicapping Insight
The story of the Nats of has always been of playoff disappointment. There is no way to sugar coat that but this team has a great chance of making them and adding to that narrative.
They are very strong in the rotation and if things break right in the lineup can certainly be in the upper half of the National League.

Key Additions:
- Patrick Corbin
- Yan Gomes
- Brian Dozier
Corbin cashed in big time off his best season and gives the Nats essentially three aces at the top of the rotation.
Gomes is not elite but he might be the best they have had at catching over the last few seasons.

Dozier put up some really big season with Minnesota. If he can regain that power stroke this will be a steal.
Key Losses:
- OF Bryce Harper
Until he signed with Philly it really did seem that the Nats were in it. Still I think this is not going to be a big loss for them.
2019 Washington Nationals Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- RF Adam Eaton
- SS Trea Turner
- 3B Anthony Rendon
- LF Juan Soto
- 1B Ryan Zimmerman
- C Yan Gomes
- 2B Brian Dozier
- CF Victor Robles
They might not have that one great hitter but this lineup is really solid from top to bottom, especially at the bottom where Robles is expected to be a star. If he is they could move him to the leadoff spot.
Dozier and Gomes are at the bottom of the lineup but both can be above average at their positions. Anthony Rendon is ready to assume the mantle of offensive leader.
2019 Washington Nationals Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH Max Scherzer
- RH Stephen Strasburg
- LH Patrick Corbin
- RH Anibal Sanchez
- RH Jeremy Hellickson
Those top three are as good as anybody else has, unless Corbin was just a flash in the pan. Even if he is just OK that has the potential to be an elite trio. No reason to think Scherzer or Strasburg is going to fade.
The other two are veterans. Sanchez showed some life last year and knows the division. Hellickson is similar but with a lower ceiling.
2019 Washington Nationals Predictions: Projected Closer:
- LH Sean Doolittle
Doolittle can more than get the job done and they have some good arms backing him up.

One of those is a familiar name in Trevor Rosenthal. Apparently he has his velocity back and he could see some save opportunities where it makes more sense to go with a righty.
Kyle Barraclough, another free agent pickup has had success but was not good in the second half last season.
2019 Washington Nationals Predictions:
There is no reason to think Washington is in for a big fade just because Harper left. He had talent for sure but also brought other stuff.
The pitching at the top of the rotation should be very good. Every time those guys line up 1,2,3 in a series they are likely to win it.
I like the lineup overall. Soto was good as a rookie and now Robles gets his chance. They need at least one on a All-Star level this season.

The rest of the group is more than good enough for this offense to be top half in the NL just a little less powerful than in the past.
The bullpen is solid though maybe not as strong in terms of their bridge guys. They should not squander leads late. Overall I am higher than most on this group.
