Astros 2019 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2019 Houston Astros predictions? Houston might not have won back to back titles last season but they are in just as good a position as any team in baseball to win the World Series this season.
MLB Astros Predictions & Handicapping Insight
There is no perfect team in baseball but the Astros have a strong lineup featuring players in their prime. Offense should not be a problem.
The rotations is as good at the top as any in the league, though it might have lost some depth. The bullpen can be very strong once again.

Key Additions:
- Michael Brantley
- Robinson Chirinos
- Wade Miley
Brantley is what many call a professional hitter. Injuries may have slowed him down some in Cleveland but he looked good last season.
They have had turnover at catche and Chirinos should be able to give them quality defensive play and some pop at the plate.

Wade Miley was a surprisingly key piece for Milwaukee last season after overhauling approach. He can slot nicely into the Houston rotation.
Key Losses:
- SP Dallas Keuchel
- SP Charlie Morton
- C Brian McCann
Keuchel and Morton were part of the best rotation in baseball last season and McCann was a powerful and steadying influence behind the plate. You can’t pay everyone.
2019 Houston Astros Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- CH George Springer
- 3B Alex Bregman
- 2B Jose Altuve
- SS Carlos Correa
- LF Michael Brantley
- 1B Yuli Gurriel
- DH Tyler White
- RF Josh Reddick
- C Robinson Chirinos
This lineup might not have that one big bopper but the top of it is awesome, combing, power, speed and an ability to get on base. Houston can slug but they can beat you in other ways too.
The lower half has the potential to be dangerous too. Tyler White could be a masher and Josh Reddick has shown more in the past and is only 31. They can expect at least league average production from every spot.
2019 Houston Astros Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH Justin Verlander
- RH Gerrit Cole
- LH Wade Miley
- RH Collin McHugh
- LH Framber Valdez
The top two are as good as it gets in baseball. Verlander is showing no signs of slowing down and Cole is coming off his best season ever.
The rest of the rotation has more question marks and it hurts that Lance McCullers is lost of the season. McHugh was a reliever last season but it is not that long ago that he won 19 games in the rotation. Valdez was really hard to hit in limited action last season.
2019 Houston Astros Predictions: Projected Closer:
- RH Roberto Osuna
The Astros might have stole Osuna from the Blue Jays. He had off the field issues but has been one of the most successful young closers in the game for a few years now.

Brad Peacock does not get saves but he is one of the best relievers in the game. Houston deploys him in high leverage situations and he usually slams the door. He could figure in the rotation if anyone struggles.
Ryan Pressly is not a household name but he is another guy who comes into games and keeps opponents at bay. His K rate last season was over 12/9IP and we was lights out with the Astros after coming over from the Twins.
2019 Houston Astros Predictions:
The Astros look like a lock to win their division. The odds show there is not much value there but there is a lot if you like the future on the pennant or World Series. Essentially they could win any playoff series they are in.
Last year the pitching really led the way with only emerging Alex Bregman having a strong offensive season. I expect some of the other hitters to be up this season.
If that is the case and the pitching slides a little (I am not sure it can be better) looking at overs, especially early could be profitable.

Houston is very much a known quantity and getting good values on a day to day basis is tough. You will have to look at the back half of the rotation.
Last year their most profitable situation was on the road where they cleared 25+ units. There is no reason to expect that to change much this season.
