Rockies 2019 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2019 Colorado Rockies predictions? I am bullish on the Rockies this season. I see no reason they can’t return to the playoffs and if things break well wrest the National League West away from the Dodgers.
MLB Rockies Predictions & Handicapping Insight
Colorado is always going to be known as an offensive powerhouse but if you look closely they had really good pitching last season too. They are way more balanced that they have probably ever been.
Another reason to really like the Rox is that they have multiple players who can still improve on their numbers, a lot of guys reaching their prime together.
2019 MLB Team Previews – Colorado Rockies
- Rockies National League West Odds +500
- Rockies National League Odds +1800
- Rockies World Series Odds +4000
- 1B Daniel Murphy
- 1B Mark Reynolds
Per the intro this team was pretty set coming into the offseason. Murphy is a professional hitter who should see his numbers rise in Colorado. He is also money in the playoffs.
Mark Reynolds is another power source the Rockies are very familiar with. He slugged 30 homers for them back in 2017.
- OF Carlos Gonzalez
- OF Gerardo Parra
Gonzalez was once an elite player but has not been lately. Parra is a useful piece but they have more than enough offense and defense without him.
2019 Colorado Rockies Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- RF Charlie Blackon
- 3B Nolan Arenado
- 1B Daniel Murphy
- SS Trevor Story
- LF David Dahl
- CF Ian Desmond
- 2B Garrett Hampson
- C Chris Iannetta
There is a lot to like about this lineup. Blackmon is not a speedster but in a down year he had 27 homers and 119 runs last year. Arenado is one of the most productive players in the league and is getting paid like it. Story and Dahl and big time power sources. Especially in that park.
Iam Desmond still has room to grow his numbers and less pressure on him now. The only unproven member of the lineup is Hampson at 2B.
2019 Colorado Rockies Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH German Marquez
- LH Kyle Freeland
- RH Jon Gray
- LH Tyler Anderson
- RH Antonio Senzatela
Colorado has not had past success bringing in big arms to the rotation. This group is essentially all home grown and they are emerging. Marquez might be small in stature but he has big stuff. Freeland was really good last year but can be better.
Gray is supposed to be the most dominant and the leader of this group. He took a step back last season but is still just 27 and I expect him to bounce back.
2019 Colorado Rockies Predictions: Projected Closer:
- RH Wade Davis
Davis was a free agent acquisition and the big righty struggled a little bit in his first season in Colorado. He was good but can be better. .
The rest of the pen is filled with veteran arms all of whom have logged time at Coors before. They should be very steady.
Davis is good but they do not have that one arm that scares the crap out of opponents with this group.
2019 Colorado Rockies Predictions:
I like the Rox a lot and they can take advantage of the fact that it looks like Arizona and San Francisco are going to have down season. I am not totally sold on L.A and San Diego is a work in progress.
I really like their lineup. Sure their numbers get inflated by Coors but the best hitters on this team have strong tracks records of just producing. Scoring will not be a problem.
Look for the rotation to stay good. There is an outside chance they to to really good if Gray performs and you get a little more from Marquez and Freeland.
The bullpen could be the weak link but they are solid. They are just not very dymanic.
Colorado is always a fun team to back, especially in that ballpark where anything can happen. I will be looking to play these guys a lot.
