Will this be the year the White Sox finally compete again for the American League Central? Or is it still just a year or two away?
2019 MLB Team Previews – Chicago White Sox

Key Additions:
- Kelvin Herrera
- Alex Colome
- Jon Jay
The White Sox went hard after Manny Machado but they couldn’t get him in Chicago so it was a pretty unsuccesful offseason.

In they brought in Kelvin Herrera and Alex Colome who should help bolster a bullpen that hasn’t been great the last few years.
They also brought in Jon Jay who is solid but isn’t going to be the missing piece that gets them back to the playoffs.
Key Losses:
- James Shields
- Avisaíl García
The James Shields loss really isn’t going to be felt as he struggled with the White Sox last year. Avisail Garcia was solid in 2017 but in 2018 he really struggled.
They are going to miss his production that he had from 2017 though. Overall this was a pretty quiet offseason for the White Sox.
2019 Chicago White Sox Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- 2B Yoan Moncada (S)
- 1B Jose Abreu (R)
- 3B Yolmer Sanchez (S)
- DH Yonder Alonso (L)
- LF Eloy Jimenez (R)
- RF Daniel Palka (L)
- SS Tim Anderson (R)
- C Welington Castillo (R)
- CF Adam Engel (R)
This is a solid lineup but it really could go one way or the other. There are a lot of unproven guys, that need to have success for the team to take the step forward.
If the bottom half of this lineup performs they should have at least be competitive.
2019 Chicago White Sox Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- LHP Carlos Rodon
- RHP Reynaldo Lopez
- RHP Ivan Nova
- RHP Lucas Giolito
- RHP Dylan Covey
Carlos Rondon is the ace of this staff and that is a scary thing because this is a guy who really hasn’t been that good.
Last year he was 6-8 with an ERA over four. Just like the starting lineup, a lot of guys are going to have to overperform.
2019 Chicago White Sox Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Kelvin Herrera
- Álex Colomé
Who is going to save games for the White Sox is still to be seen but I think either way they go, they can’t really go wrong.
If I was the one making the decision I would probably side with Colome but either guy should be good in the role.

I think this team is going to have stretches of success but I think they are going to have problems playing a full season of good baseball.
