Diamondbacks 2019 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2019 Arizona Diamondbacks predictions? It seems like Arizona gave up on things pretty quickly. A couple of seasons ago they were in the playoffs and now they are likely to be at the bottom of the division. There is not going to be much to look forward to in the desert this summer.
MLB Diamondbacks Predictions & Handicapping Insight
There is not a lot to like this season for Arizona. They traded away their best hitter and lost their best pitcher in free agency. There are no great replacements either.
The pitching staff could still be decent but the lineup is not going to scare anyone this season. They need someone to really bust out.
2019 MLB Team Previews – Arizona Diamondbacks

- Diamondbacks National League Odds +15000
- Diamondbacks World Series Odds +20000
- SP Luke Weaver
- 2B Wilmer Flores
- RP Greg Holland
When they traded away Paul Goldschmidt Weaver was the biggest part of the return. He was very good for St. Louis last season.
Flores had his moments with the Mets but is definitely not a star in the making. Just a solid player.
Holland has had his moments as an elite reliever throughout his career. He will help in high leverage spots.
- 1B Paul Goldschmidt
- SP Patrick Corbin
I am not sure any other club lost a duo like these ones this offseason. Replacing that production is going to be very difficult.
2019 Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- CF Ketel Marte
- 3B Eduardo Escobar
- LF David Peralta
- RF Steven Souza Jr.
- 1B Jake Lamb
- 2B Wilmer Flores
- SS Nick Ahmed
- C Carson Kelly
There are no bats you need to fear in this one. Lamb and Souza and Peralta have some power but they can be managed. Marte has shown flashes of being a good offensive player but has moved around too.
I am not sure how they are going to score enough runs regularly to win. Chase can help a little but but this group is going to have to manufacture runs on a regular basis.
2019 Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- RH Zach Greinke
- LH Robbie Ray
- RH Zack Godley
- RH Luke Weaver
- RH Merrill Kelly
Ray is a monster in terms of stuff but he has always struggled with harnessing it consistently. Greinke is as much guile as stuff right now but it works. Arizona can definitely have a better than average rotation if they all play to form.
Kelly has been pitching in Korea of late. There are lots of stories of reclamation projects but he is essentially a lottery ticket right now.
2019 Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions: Projected Closer:
- RH Archie Bradley
Bradley is a failed starter who has become an intimidating reliever. Not quite Andrew Miller but similar evolution. He can dominate.
Holland gives them a veteran lefty that they can use in all sort of situations. Andrew Chafin is another lefty who has performed well so Arizona can really mix and match when they want.
Arizona had success bringing Yoshihisa Hirano over from Japan. Not a high strikeout guy but he has been good. He is a veteran that will be used a lot for sure.
2019 Arizona Diamondbacks Predictions:
With their offseason losses it is easy to be down on the Diamondbacks this season. The big question is going to be whether their pitching holds up.
If it does then this team should be competitive even if they are not winning a lot of games. They could have the best rotation in the division.
The lineup could be one of the worst in the National League. What are the odds players reach their ceilings? There is not a lot to be excited about there.
David Peralta is coming off a career year but I worry about whether he can do it again, especially without Goldy around.
Jake Lamb could rebound but I did not like what I saw last season in limited action. Those guys are the key.
