Twins 2018 Season Preview
Ready to check out our 2018 Minnesota Twins predictions? The Twins surprised a lot of people when they made the playoffs even though they were bounced in the wild-card game by the New York Yankees. Now the big question is was that a fluke year, or can they build on that and make it even farther in the playoffs in the 2018 season.
MLB Twins predictions & Handicapping Insight
The Twins have a lot of young talent and might have the best defensive outfield in baseball centered around Byron Buxton.
The biggest question mark coming into this season was surrounding pitching, and they hope they made enough moves to take that next step forward.
2018 MLB Team Previews – Minnesota Twins
- American League Central +350
- American League +1800
- World Series +4000
Key Additions:
- Fernando Rodney
- Addison Reed
- Jake Odorizzi
- Logan Morrison
The Twins really bolstered the back end of their bullpen with the signing of Fernando Rodney and Addison Reed, both who could be the closer for this team, but one of those guys is going to be make a very good setup man.
They traded the Rays for Jake Odorizzi who should be the number three pitcher for the team once Ervin Santana comes back from injury.
He is a workhorse who should give this team a solid third option, something they really didn’t have last year.

The only big offensive pick up was a big one in Logan Morrison. He is a huge power bat that will be a nice fit right behind Sano.
This could be one of the best offensive teams in the MLB, especially with Morrison.
Key Losses:
- Chris Gimenez
- Glen Perkins
- Bartolo Colon
The Twins didn’t lose a ton this off-season. The biggest name loss was probably Glen Perkins who was the former Twins closer.
He had dealt with injuries the last few years and he was a shell of his former self.
Twins Predictions: Projected Lineup:
- Brian Dozier
- Joe Mauer
- Miguel Sano
- Logan Morrison
- Byron Buxton
- Eddie Rosario
- Jorge Polanco
- Max Kepler
- Jason Castro
Like stated above this has the chance to be one of the best offensive teams in baseball, but a lot of that hinges on Byron Buxton finding his groove season.
If he can hit .250 or above this year, this could turn into a very special year for the Twins. If he struggles though there are going to be a lot of innings that are disrupted by his struggles.
Twins Predictions: Projected Rotation:
- Ervin Santana
- Jose Berrios
- Jake Odorizzi
- Kyle Gibson
- Adalberto Mejia
Ervin Santana will be starting the season on the DH, but once he gets back he will be the number one or two starter depending on how Jose Berrios pitches.
Jake Odorizzi is going to be a solid third starter for this team, but the big question marks come down to the fourth and fifth starter.
If Kyle Gibson is healthy he should be the 4th starter, but the fifth starting spot will probably be a rotation unless they can find someone who they just can’t go away from.
Twins Predictions: Projected Closer:
- Addison Reed
The back of the Twins Bullpen is going to be special, and when they turn the ball over to Addison Reed, the game should be all but over.

Last year with the Mets he had 17 saves before being traded to the Boston Red Sox to be their set up guy. Back in his natural role, I would expect a season out of him.
2018 Minnesota Twins Prediction:
There is no question the Minnesota Twins are better this year then last year, at least talent wise, but the American League is tough, and they have the Cleveland Indians to compete with in the American League Central.
This offense is going to be good, and I think it will finish second or third in the American League in offensive production behind only the Yankees, and maybe the Astros.

I really think they will give the Indians a run for the American League Central, but if they can’t win that they will make the playoffs with a Wild Card Spot.
