2021 Rebel Stakes Handicapping
Qualifying action for the 2021 Kentucky Derby returns to Oaklawn Park this Saturday for the running of the (G2) Rebel Stakes. The Rebel is the final race on the road to the Derby to award points on a 50-20-10-5 scale. After the Rebel all qualifying races double in point value.
Open to horses age three, the Rebel has drawn a field of eight contenders, and they’ll be racing 1 1/16 miles on the Oaklawn dirt course.

2021 Rebel Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Caddo River Race Odds: 9-5
The first of two big contenders for the Rebel title, Caddo River returns to Oaklawn where he was last seen winning the Smarty Jones Stakes back in January.
He simply dominated that race, going to the front right out of the gate and never looking back, eventually cruising to victory by more than 10 lengths. That was his second consecutive win and second for his career, to go along with two runner-up finishes in four lifetime starts.
Both trainer Brad Cox and jockey Florent Geroux go for their first Rebel win.
2021 Rebel Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Concert Tour Race Odds: 2-1
California-based shipper Concert Tour also comes in off a solid win, as last out he took the (G2) San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita at a distance of seven furlongs. There he sat just off the pace through the early part of the race before engaging the leader down the stretch and hitting the wire first by 1/2 length.
Prior to that he was an easy winner in his lifetime debut at six furlongs, also at Santa Anita, so he faces both a new track and stretch out in distance here.
Trainer Bob Baffert has all but owned the Rebel in recent years, winning seven of the last 12 races, including last year. Jockey Joel Rosario is tapped to ride.
2021 Rebel Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Keepmeinmind Race Odds: 4-1
Third last fall in the 2020 (G1) Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at odds of 31-1, Keepmeinmind followed up that performance by winning the (G2) Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Just before the BC Juvenile he was runner up in the (G1) Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland, making him the only horse in this race with two Grade 1 results to his name, and the only horse with three graded-stakes starts. He comes into the Rebel fresh off a three-month layoff.

2021 Rebel Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Super Stock Race Odds: 6-1
Although shy on wins, Super Stock has been competitive in his recent races with five straight in-the-money finishes. Two of those races were at the graded-stakes level, as he was third in both the (G3) Iroquois Stakes at Churchill and the (G1) Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.
Last out he was the runner up in the Street Sense Stakes at Churchill, and he’ll be making his first start since that event back in late October.
Trainer Steve Asmussen has won the Rebel four times, jockey Joe Talamo tries for his first.

It’s tough to look past the top two here, although admittedly there will be little value to be had with either one. For me, Caddo River has a slight edge and will be the win pick. Basically it comes down to the fact he has the win over the track, and his workouts since the Smarty Jones have been solid. So no reason to overthink it.
While it seems like Baffert has another good one in Concert Tour, I do note he was all out to get past Freedom Fighter in the San Vicente, and that one was a non-threatening fourth last Saturday in the (G2) Gotham at Aqueduct.

There is to many horses that have been running shorter races.So I think this race is set up for keepmeinmind,to cherish this field.So my pick is 6 ,4 and 1 or 7 for third.
