Here is my Cougars Beavers free pick: I’m on Over 52.5. Oregon State has cleared 50 points in three of its last four games, and the Beavers have shown no interest in taking their foot off the gas. Washington State’s defense is walking into a tough assignment. Oregon State is 5-1 to the over this season and has covered all six games against the spread.
Those aren’t automatic tickets to another high-scoring game, but they show how consistently the Beavers have exceeded expectations. My concern is Washington State’s offense, not Oregon State’s.
At this number, a 38-17 game cashes the over without Washington State doing anything extraordinary.
The Cougars have covered eight of their last nine games as underdogs, according to the betting trend, and they don’t have to win or even keep this particularly close. Two touchdowns and a field goal would be enough if Oregon State delivers another strong offensive performance.
A blowout isn’t necessarily bad for this bet, either.
Washington State could spend much of the second half playing from behind, creating additional possessions and opportunities for late points.
I expect Oregon State to establish an aggressive pace early and force the Cougars to respond rather than dictate the tempo.
The bet is Over 52.5.
