The Utah State Aggies are looking to rebound as their Mountain West divisional games have gone up in flame as they head to Albuquerque to take on the Lobos.

As for the Lobos of New Mexico, it is difficult to win games as three different quarterbacks have started this year. Who will start Saturday?
Utah State Aggies
The Utah State Aggies started the season with three wins in their first five games, beating the three lesser-quality teams and losing to the two big-time programs (Wisconsin and Wake Forest).
However, once the Mountain West portion of their schedule got going, it went down hill. Through five conference games, the Aggies are just 2–3 with their only wins coming against last-place San Jose State and a three-win UNLV team.

Normally, the program is a shoo in for a bowl game, but last year, things changed. After making five straight bowls from 2011–2015, the Aggies went 3–9 and missed out in 2016. This year, they are in danger of missing out again but have three chances to reach the six-win qualifier.
If they want to reach a bowl, they’ll either have to ramp up their middle-of-the-road defense. Of all 12 teams in the Mountain West, the Aggies rank ninth in points allowed and seventh in sacks and yardage.
However, their offense is electric, especially through the air. They currently have the second-most passing yards and fourth-most total yards.
New Mexico Lobos
The New Mexico Lobos are one of the founding members of the Mountain West Conference but have just one conference title (since 1999). That title came in 2016 as the program has had a bit of a renaissance in recent years. In fact, they’ve made back-to-back bowl appearances in their last two seasons, ending a drought that dates back to 2007.
This season, however, things have been up and down. For instance, they whooped up on a solid Air Force team 56–38 and beat Tulsa (of the bigger American Athletic Conference) on the road, 16–13.
Some games have been straight-up ugly, though. They were shut out by Fresno State 38–0, lost to Wyoming 42–3, and dropped their biggest rivalry game (versus in-state rival New Mexico State) at home.

With that said, a third consecutive bowl appearance is still in the cards if they can get their act together, particularly on offense. Through eight games, UNM has the second-worst passing offense in the Mountain West.
The only team worse is Air Force, and that’s because they run a triple-option run offense. Three different QBs have played significant time this year, with Tevaka Tuioti and Lamar Jordan splitting time over the last three games.
Neither has been impactful: both are completing less than 50 percent of their throws during that stretch and in their last game the two combined for five interceptions.
