Southern Miss is coming off of two really tough losses and although they currently sit at 2-7 they are almost assuredly better than that record would suggest with great games against some very tough opponents on that record.
The Blazers are also coming off of two tough losses, but they do get a good spot here on Friday to get back into the win column as they look toward their season finale against the Rice Owls on December 12th.
Southern Miss Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles played the Roadrunners tough last week only losing by 3 points, but managing to out gain UTSA by 43 yards. Sophomore QB Tate Whatley was decent in that game, although he was relatively inefficient at under a 60% completion rate. He did, however, throw 2 TD’s to 1 INT and he almost threw for 300 yards, so he should be looking forward to the challenge the UAB Blazers present with some confidence.
The Biggest problem for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in that game against UTSA was the run defense as they allowed Sincere McCormick to run all over them for nearly 200 yards and if they allow UAB to do anything close to that on the ground it is going to be a long day for Southern Miss.
UAB Blazers
The Blazers were 13 point favorites against Louisiana Tech in their last game and not only did they not cover, they lost the game straight up. They lost the turnover battle by a margin of two and their inability to be efficient with the offense was costly.
Junior QB Tyler Johnston will be looking to bounceback in an A+ spot here, as he only completed 4 passes on 9 attempts last game and that will need to change if they want to be successful against the slightly underrated Southern Miss Golden Eagle side.
