The Rutgers Scarlet Knights visit the No. 24 Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Ryan Field in Evanston. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on Peacock. It’s a Week 8 Big Ten matchup between a Rutgers team seeking consistency and a Northwestern program enjoying a strong start.
Rutgers enters 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play under Greg Schiano. The Scarlet Knights have split their two road games and are looking to build on their latest victory.
The Wildcats won’t be nearly as accommodating as Maryland.
Northwestern has the stronger record, but Rutgers brings enough offensive weapons to challenge its defense.
Northwestern stands 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten under David Braun. The Wildcats have won all four home games and are riding a three-game winning streak. They’re back in the AP Top 25 and looking increasingly comfortable with the expectations that come with it.

If the Wildcats build a lead, Rutgers has every reason to keep throwing rather than run out the clock. That is exactly what an Over ticket needs.
A Northwestern lead could actually help this total if Rutgers keeps attacking downfield.
The danger is Northwestern taking control and slowing the pace. Rutgers needs to answer with touchdowns instead of settling for field goals.
I’m expecting enough offense from the Scarlet Knights to keep Northwestern aggressive. A couple of quick scoring drives could put this total in excellent shape.
This isn’t a bet that requires an upset.
